Duke Preview 2010-2011
After Duke has brought back championship #4, and taking home the crown in Indianapolis, the Blue Devils returned to Durham with one thing that needed to be done..........the return of Kyle Singler. After a couple weeks, Singler made his decision, he would return to Duke for his senior season. That propelled the Blue Devils from a top10 team, to one of the favorites to winning the national championship in 2011. Even with the loss of Jon Scheyer, Lance Thomas, and Brian Zoubek, the Dukies will reload with the likes of Seth Curry, Carrick Felix, Kyrie Irving, Josh Hairston, and Tyler Thornton. The Blue Devils look to be strong next season as they look for championship number five!
Kyrie Irving(Fr) Tyler Thornton(Fr)
Projeted Stater: Kyrie Irving
Irving will have to be the Blue Devils playmaker. Duke will need him to create his shot, and shots for others, while controlling the floor and filling Jon Scheyer's shoes. Kyrie has the potential to be great @ Duke, and will make a huge impact right away.
Thornton will come off the bench, and will be needed for defense. He will be an issential part of the Blue Devils, and with the possibility of Irving leaving for the NBA even after freshman year, he will have to grow up fast.
Nolan Smith(Sr) Seth Curry(So) Andre Dawkins(So)
Projected Starter: Nolan Smith
Smith will take on the role of co-captain, and will take on the opportunity of being an ACC 1st team All American. Smith should end off with a bang, as his senior year will be his best one yet.
Curry is going to also be a huge part of the offense, if K decides to start him instead of Irving, Curry will be able to shoot(duh), pass and run the offense quite well. Alot will be expected out of him, but this will still be a growing year for him, as it will be his first PLAYING for the Blue Devils.
Dawkins rounds out eh most stacked position for any team in the country, as a rapidly improving freshman who finally started to find his groove late in the year. Andre can definately shoot, and his ability to drive will be key to see how far he can help Duke go this season.
Kyle Singler(Sr) Carrick Felix(So)
Projected Starter: Kyle Singler
Singler will be the other half of the co-captain tandem, and the stud of this team. Singler is coming off being the MOP of the NCAA Tournament, and will look to be even better this season. He will have to be the leader of this team, and continue to work on his driving ability, and that will make him to good to stop.
Felix may redshirt this season, learning under Coach K, and the Blue Devil way. He is very athletic and if he does not redshirt, he will be a key contributor of the bench, while giving Singler the rest he needs.
Miles Plumlee(Jr) Mason Plumlee(So) Ryan Kelly(So) Josh Hairston(Fr)
Projected Starters: The Plumlee Brothers
Miles will have to be a defensive stopper, and with the way he was hitting his mid-range shot toward the end of the year, if he can get a solid post move, he will bring a huge plus to the offense.
Mason will also need to gain a solid post move and he can become a superstar. The raw potential and talent is there, all he needs is to unleash it.
Ryan HAS to work during the offseason on his jumper, and being a solid defender. With those two things, Kelly will see alot more playing time this season than he did last year.
Josh can be a factor that no other Blue Devil has had since Sheldon Williams. He can be a great post player, with the build for it. This season Hairston can contribute, but more importantly get ready for the future.
