When I wrote that Alexander was a great fighter, climbing the ranks while being a single father of six, I was reamed for making a mistake.
The mistake was an easy one to make, seeing as how there are at least four Silvas fighting right now, but a mistake nonetheless.
But I was looking around for info on various fighters, and I found out that Alexander donated a kidney to one of his kids in 2000.
According to the Washington Post, after his daughter fell ill, Alexander donated his kidney—and remained in the hospital for less than two days after his surgery, because he had to get back to work to support his children.
According to Wikipedia, Alexander also DJs for a raido station in Nebraska and writes his own rap music.
Some might call him a jack-of-all-trades and master-of-none but Alexander has clearly demonstrated that he has mastered his job, mastered single fatherhood, and is on his way to mastering the octagon.
My hat goes off to you, Houston Alexander, for being someone that any kid could look up to and call a hero. You are a legend in my book.
