StrikeForce Debut: Dana White, UFC Have Company
IconSome observers have argued that the merger of UFC and PRIDE constitutes a monopoly in the fighting world.

The competition might beg to disagree.

In fact, lesser known fight organizations like Bodog have banned together to create StrikeForce, a new circuit on the national fight scene.

Calvin Ayre spearheaded the union in an effort to compete with the UFC. On November 17th, StirkeForce streamed its fights for free on the Internet through

Ayre's goal is to reach as broad an audience as possible—and he's doing it with a stable of big-name fighters.

Frank Shamrock, Cung Lee, and Phil Baroni to name a few. The organization's first fights were entertaining.

UFC deserves credit for bringing MMA to the mainstream, but the time has come for other organizations to offer new options—for fans and fighters alike.

Here's hoping StrikeForce catches on so that more fighters have a chance to receive the recognition they deserve.
