Marcus Camby for a Second Round Pick? Is This a Joke?

Austin DrakeSenior Analyst IJuly 16, 2008

One of the best centers in the NBA is being traded for a second round pick in the 2010 NBA Draft.

Marcus Camby, a rebounding and blocking machine, is headed to L.A. (not the Lakers). All the Clippers had to give up was a second round pick two years from now.

Camby averaged 9.1 points, 13.1 rebounds, and 3.6 blocks per game last season, some of the best numbers for any center. The 6'11" big guy was in the middle of trade talks along with former teammate Carmelo Anthony.

The only logical explanation of this lopsided trade would be that the Nuggets are looking to free up cap room and this deal definitely does that. Denver reportedly frees up $40 million by making this deal.

The Clippers were shopping for a center/power forward now that Elton Brand left them for the 76ers earlier this month.

The potential Clippers starting lineup looks like this; Grade: B

PG: B. Davis SG: C. Mobley SF: A. Thornton PF: C. Kaman C: M. Camby

The potential Nuggets starting lineup looks like this; Grade: B-

PG: A. Iverson SG: J. Smith SF: C. Anthony PF: K. Martin C: S. Hunter
