The Oakland Raiders and CB Nnamdi Asomugha were hoping to get a long-term contract in place to extend the cornerback's stay in Oakland. However, they were unable to get it finalized before Tuesday's deadline.
Since Asomugha was placed with a Franchise Tag, he will be playing this season for $9.7 million. Making this his "show me the money" season, we might expect to see some unreal play out of him.

Two ways to look at this. Yeah it sucks. Would have been nice to have him inked before season and camp. Though he will hold out, he will sign the franchise contract before the regular season and will be ready to shut down with Hall. The downside here is we know he's pissed and will miss training camp time. The upside is, once he gets on the field and sees how the defense is shutting teams down along with a chance to have a winning record, he will be more prone to sign a long term deal at the end of this season. This will also help with current salary cap issues for this year. Victory has a funny way of making people want to stay with a team who is on the up swing. I look at this as a hurdle, not a brick wall. Lets stay positive nation, there is still time for this to come to a happy ending.

He will be signed at the end of the season, but there is a downside to this, if he gets hurt, there will not be a long term deal.
