If You Were GM, You Might Look Like Martin Mayhew

I am speachless about our team tonight, the Detroit Lions...well, not enough to not spew some excitement. The Lions are on the verge of killing my entire concept of my website (they are doing things that I would do IF I WERE GM!!!)

In all seriousness, I am extremely pleased with the off-season moves of Martin Mayhew.  When the season ended, their were glaring weaknesses all over the place. So, what did the Lions do this off-season to address these? 

1) Defensive Line (Added Ndamukong Suh, Corey Williams, and Kyle Vanden Bosch)

2) Cornerback (Added Chris Houston)

3) Running Back (Added Jahvid Best)

4) Guard (Added Rob Sims)

5) Wide Receiver (Added Nate Burleson)  

5) Linebacker (TBD)

Impressive.  Very impressive.  Suh and Best, but how can one not be excited about them, we shall see.  Corey Williams was on the verge of pro-bowl caliber two years ago, but ended up in the "pit of despair" Cleveland who changed to 3-4 defense after Williams signing which turned out to be a bad fit for a classic 4-3 Tackle.  Kyle Vanden Bosch is a former pro-bowler who's productivity dropped after Schwartz left.  Chris Houston is an immediate starter, but did not fit Houston's cover 2 scheme, but fits in Schwartz's press defense.  Rob Sims, a top 10 rated guard in the league at one point, did not fit in Seattle's zone blocking scheme, perfect fit for Scwartz's smash mouth offensive line scheme. 

Long story short...for the first time in my lifetime we have a front office that is making decisions that is lock-in-step with the coaching staff...that is why great organizations win year after year...trust the scheme, draft and sign players that fit your scheme, never waver.
