The Raiders almost always surprise in the draft. This year to the surprise of many the Raiders made a conservative pick taking the highest ranked line-backer in the draft in Rolando McClain with the 8th overall pick.
Tommorow the Raiders will be giving to more chances to shock the world and improve their roster. Will the Raiders play it safe or make another epic reach similar to Darius Hayward-Bey and Michael Mitcheal last year?
Time will tell, here is a look at some of the Raiders possibilities day two of the draft:
This may be a reach but it fills a need. Veldheer attended a private workout with the Raiders and actually spoke with Al Davis, very rare for draft prospects:
"He told me he wants to get another Super Bowl ring. He said he hopes it works out that the Raiders get me in the draft because he likes my tape and he likes the way I run," Veldheer said. "
Could Veldheer be the answer to the Raiders problems on the o-line?
He is projected to go in the third or fourth round, could the Raiders reach for him and take him in the second?
Here's some more information on him: http://www.mlive.com/sports/grand-rapids/index.ssf/2010/04/scouts_give_hillsdale_colleges.html
Rolando McClain owes much of his success to the big ugly d-linemen who play in front of him.
McClain is not only the biggest ugliest DT in the Crimson Tide, but the biggest ugliest left in the draft.
Could Al Davis be planning to reunite to playmakers from Alabama?
Another O-linemen who visited the Raiders for a private workout. Sure he may not have spoken personally with Al Davis but he would fill a need on the Raiders o-line at guard or center.
The Raiders defense, by my opinion, is merely a run stuffing DT away from being great. Could the Raiders shore up the defense with this big run stuffer?
If the Raiders are looking for a DT they may also select Lamar Houstan, Brian Price, Linval Joseph or Geno atkins.
Many thought Al Davis wouldn't be able to resist this guy in the 1st round because of his amazing measurables.
Will Al Davis be able to resist the temptation again, or will Bruce Campbell be wearing Silver and Black next year?
Vladimir Ducasse and Charles Brown are possibilities as well.
Safety is by no means a need.
Like Bruce Campbell many suggested Al Davis would not be able to resist a physical speciman like Mays. With him falling to the second round could the Raiders be interested?
Some draft experts projected Clausen to the Raiders at #8 and he is still on the board.
If the Raiders have giving up on JaMarcus Russell, then Clausen is a possibility in the 2nd for the Raiders.
This is a picture of Michael Mitchell who was a huge reach last year for the Raiders in round two last year.
Don't be surprised if it happens again. The Raiders may take another player who had an impressive pro-day, combine or highlight reel
