"I'll Do Whatever It Takes": Why Tim Tebow Can Be Great in the NFL

Fred BarrettApr 22, 2010

By far the most shocking story of the NFL draft so far, the Denver Broncos have selected Tim Tebow with the 25th pick. Some like this move, but most do not.

But there are some things about Tebow that lead me to believe he can be very successful in the NFL.

Tebow has a team-first attitude.

When Tim Tebow was interviewed after he was officially drafted he was asked why he thought the Broncos thought he could be a first-round draft choice.

Tebow responded, "I think that in my meeting with Josh McDaniels I convinced him that I would do whatever it takes for me to bring a championship to Denver."

Tim Tebow possesses one of the best work ethics in the NFL but also will not stop working on things that are wrong with his game until they are fixed.

Tim Tebow's hunger for winning is insatiable.

He was quoted as saying, "I will do whatever the coaches want me to do. They know what I am capable of and they know what I need to work on. I will do what it takes."

Tebow knows he's not perfect. He knows that he will have to work on some things to adjust to the speed of the NFL, but he also will not be satisfied until he does so.

Tebow has such a hunger for his team to win that he will stop short of nothing to achieve that goal.

Tim Tebow is one of the strongest QBs in the NFL.

Tim Tebow is a big guy, (Ok that is a slight understatement) but Tim Tebow is one strong young man.

During his weight lifting training sessions at UF he was forced to stop working on the bench press because they did not want his chest to get too big so as to impede his throwing motion.

Tebow also posted excellent scores for QBs in the 40-yard dash (4.72), broad jump (9'7"), and vertical leap (38"). Tebow's strength is not just in his upper body but also in his legs.

He showed all throughout his college career in the SEC (which is considered by many to be the conference that is closest to the NFL style of play) that he can break tackles at will.

Tim Tebow's character is not going to be an issue.

Tim Tebow is not going to have any character issues. A man of strong faith, Tebow has shown that he does not care what other people think about him.

He will not do anything to compromise his ethical standards. The Broncos have made it very clear that they will not tolerate character issues.

The things Tebow needs to work on can be fixed.

The biggest question coming into the draft was whether Tebow could alter his throwing motion to better suit the NFL style of play. While this might be a big concern, it is something that can be fixed.

Quarterback intangibles, which Tebow has an overabundance of, cannot be taught or coached. Mechanics, on the other hand, can be coached and changed.

I do not believe Tebow will start this year for the Broncos. Some might ask why the Broncos drafted Tebow since they already traded for Quinn.

Quinn was brought to Denver to be the back-up. McDaniels realized that Simms would not be an acceptable answer for a back-up.

Kyle Orton is in his contract year and he will start this year so Tim Tebow can learn the ropes of the NFL before starting. Orton will not be back next year and the Broncos QB situation will be Tebow and Quinn.

You might disagree with me on this, but I believe Tim Tebow will be a quality QB in the NFL and might be the answer the Broncos have been looking for.
