After last nights win against the A’s, it was the 5th in a row for the Yankees. The Yankees haven’t had a better start in April since 2003, when the Yankees went 20-6. Now they sit in 1st place (10-3) by half a game over the Rays (10-4). With a win tonight or tomorrow the Yankees will have won their 4th series in a row.

New York Yankees: (10-3)

Let me just say something about Vazquez’s performance from last nights game. I’m happy that he finally got the win, but he did only last 5 1/3 innings giving up 8 hits, 3 walks and 6 K’s. The 3 runs the A’s scored — were via the long ball. Some of the Yankee faithfuls might be wondering why his fastball is only reaching 90MPH? Is he injured? Here is a little stat on Vazquez.

In ‘08 and ‘09 his average fastball was 90.4 mph through the month of April. In addition Vazquez’s fastball velocity improved in each month following April. For instance, Javier threw 90.4 mph in April of 2008, in May he averaged 92 mph, and in June it was 91.5 mph. The same pattern was evident in 2009, as Vazquez averaged 90.4 mph in April, and then hit 91.2 mph in May, and 91.4 mph in June.

So if this pattern continues through into the 2010 season, no need to panic!!
