San Francisco Giants Roster (13 Games Into Season)

David EisenApr 21, 2010

When Spring Training started I thought the Giants had a realistic shot at the playoffs but am not so sure now. They are beginning to look to much like last year.

Here is how their roster looks right now

Aaron Rowand: Very inconsistent as a hitter. No speed, very little power(especially in that ball park) The only positive of him is that he plays hard. That is not enough.

Edgar Renteria: How old is this guy? His defense has deteriorated drastically. After a fast start he has slumped. No speed. Very little power

Pablo Sandoval: He is the Panda. Enough said. He is one of the few bright lights in the Giants lineup.

Aubrey Huff: Looks like the Giants made another bad free agent signing. He has 1 home run so far (and that was an inside the park) and don't expect much more in that ball park. No speed and no defense.

Bengie Molina: The other bright spot i the lineup. No speed but Big Money is clutch.

Mark DeRosa: Too early too tell. I like him.

Juan Uribe: Has been clutch since the middle of last year. Just not sure if he is a everyday player.

John Bowker. WOW! When he first came up he hit some home runs. Pitchers were throwing him fastballs. They started throwing him curve balls in the dirt and he started to strikeout. They send him down and bring him back thinking he has stopped swinging at curve balls in the dirt and guess what he didn't. This spring he hit 7 home runs but what everyone should remember pitchers are not throwing their best curve balls in the spring. Now that the season has started he is again swinging at them in the dirt.

Travis Ishikawa: Why did he make the team? A backup who can only play 1st base? He has very little power and very little speed. Has he ever gotten a hit with the game on the line?

Eli Whiteside: Average defense. Below average offense.

Eugenio Velez: They need to find a spot for him. His defense could be a liability but they need his speed and power.

Nate Scierholtz: I like him. I wish he had started the season instead of Bowker in right field. Too much stock is put in numbers in spring training.

The only way the Giants make the playoffs is if their pitching is better then last year. Much better. U will not win many games scoring 1 or 2 runs.

I hope I am wrong but right now it does look promising. On the bright side they are still in 1st place after 14 games just not sure how long that will last
