With only three weeks left from the end of another exciting Premier League 2009/10 season, it is that part of the season when everybody makes speculations about player movements among clubs for the next season.
While most of them are mere speculations yet some of them turns out to be true.
Through this series of slide shows we will look into the players from the Premier League clubs who will likely be hot transfer targets in the upcoming summer transfer window.
In Part 1 of these series we will start off with the defenders from Premier League clubs who are likely to be the top transfer targets for numerous clubs both from within and outside England during the transfer season.
Come this transfer window and Chelsea may have to work hard to fend off interests from suitors of their in-form defender, Branislav Ivanovic.
The 26-year-old Serbian right-back has been very impressive for the West London outfit this season.
After two disappointing seasons at Stamford Bridge, where he played a very minimal role in the first team, the Serb came of age this season and has established his place in the Blues' team.
He did a fantastic job as replacement for the injured Portuguese Bosingwa. His superb performance for Chelsea in guarding their back and also providing support up front has made him a key figure in the Blues' squad this season.
His versatility has added a new dimension to the Blues' defense. He has been one of the reasons why the Blues' have conceded fewer goals this season compared to previous seasons.
Ivanovic's impressive exploits this season has earned him numerous admirers. There has been recent news that AC Milan are interested in securing the services of the Chelsea defender.
Real Madrid have also been reported to be keeping track of the Serbian national team regular.
Although it is likely that the Blues' will offer him a contract extension at the end of these season, yet no one can rule out a possible move if a lucrative offer is placed.
What a week for this 20-year-old Welsh left-back!
Two decisive goals against the mighty Arsenal and Chelsea within a span of four days not only helped his club earn a fourth spot, it also left the Premier League title race wide open.
The 6-feet defender-cum-midfielder has been pretty impressive for the Spurs' this season.
Although he was mostly on the bench in the early half of the season, he has sealed his place in the first team after a string of fantastic performances against Fulham, Aston Villa, Wigan, and recently Chelsea and Arsenal.
The ex-Southampton player's impressive performances have generated much interest among various clubs who are keeping tabs on him.
It has been reported that Inter Milan are keen to add him to their squad this summer after an earlier attempt was refused by Spurs' boss Harry Redknapp.
The cash-rich Manchester City are also said to be interested in the Wales international.
Although Spurs' manager Redknapp has expressed his desire to keep the talented Bale on his team, yet a mouth-watering offer for their promising youngster may be too hard for the White Hart Lane outfit to resist.
The 31-year old Upson has been in top-class form this season. He has been one of the very few good things that have happened for the Hammers in their otherwise dismal season.
Although the English central defender's club is struggling to avoid relegation Upson has been in impressive form the whole season.
His performance for the Hammers has made him a mainstay in Fabio Capello's England squad.
The composed, consistent central defender's performance for West Ham has made him a hot transfer target these season for various Premier League clubs.
It has been reported that the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City, Tottenham and Liverpool might make a bid for these ex-Birmingham City player.
With Upson expressing his intentions, of leaving Upton Park next season, in more than one occasions it is surely going to attract interest from the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool whose managers look to plug the hole in their defense with some experienced player.
The Hammers' manager Gianfranco Zola has repeatedly expressed his desire to keep Mr. Dependable at Boleyn Grounds for another year, but a lucrative bid along with a chance to play in Europe may be too much a offer for Upson to resist.
Gary Cahill is one of the players whose name has been the news recently. His exploits for the Wanderers this season has earned him many admirers.
He has been really in top form this season. His performances against Manchester City, Everton and West Ham were superb.
He is likely to be one of the hottest transfer targets this summer with Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham expressing their interests in securing his services for next season.
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is reportedly making plans to make a £15 million bid for the Wanderer's in-form defender this summer as he looks to reinforce his squad.
But he may face competition from Arsenal, whose manager Arsene Wenger is likely to rebuild his squad and has expressed his long time admiration for the English player.
Cahill who is contracted at Reebok stadium until 2012 seems likely to leave Bolton if he receives a lucrative offer.
With no objections being expressed by his club over the reported transfer links it seems that Bolton might be looking to cash in on their impressive youngster.
But who will it be??? Wenger or Benitez?? Only the transfer season can provide us with the answer.
But it remains to be seen which club he joins next season.
Perhaps United's Nemanja Vidic will be the most sought after defender from Premier League this season with likes of Real Madrid, Juventus and AC Milan expressing interests in Manchester United's no-nonsense defender.
His superb performances for the Red Devils' has earned him serious attention from top European clubs and he is likely to be the subject of a massive bidding war among his suitors.
Although Vidic has quashed all rumours of his possible exit from Old Trafford this summer yet some mouth watering bids and lucrative offers may force him and his club a re-think.
Reports suggest that Real Madrid are ready to swap their out-of-favor striker Karim Benzema in exchange for the Serb.
As Ferguson looks to bring in a new strike-partner for Rooney such an offer may seem a good bargain for him.
It has been in the news recently that Italian giants Juventus are ready to offer Manchester United their talisman goalie Gianluigi Buffon along with cash to land themselves Nemanja Vidic.
The Buffon-deal may solve Ferguson's goalkeeping problems and also help him earn some extra cash.
The San Siro giants AC Milan who are looking to revamp their aging squad next season have reportedly made Vidic their top transfer target this summer and are said to be lining up a over-£20 million bid to secure the services of United's impressive defender.
Although nothing has been confirmed as yet but if United get a good bargain for their Serbian centre-back it may well see Vidic leave United.
But these are mere speculations and nothing can be conformed as yet till the summer transfer window opens.
But one thing is sure. Vidic will be the most in-demand Premier League defenders during the upcoming transfer season.
