The 2010 NFL Draft is just four days away and fans are swarming to the latest news, information, and mock draft predictions on their designated teams.

Part five of this series continues with the Kansas City Chiefs, as I uncover the first three rounds, team-by-team, before the draft opens its highly anticipated doors.

Round One, Pick Five—Trent Williams, OT, Oklahoma

Matt Cassel was tossed around like a rag doll last season, taking 42 total sacks.  Trent Williams is a very balanced blocker with the quickness and explosiveness to be an elite tackle in the NFL.

With not a single receiver reaching the 50-catch mark last season, Williams gives Cassel must-needed protection and visibility to find his open receivers.

Round Two, Pick Four—Devin McCourty, CB, Rutgers

A three-year starter in college, Devin McCourty is a smart, coachable prospect, who is fundamentally sound enough to keep up with most NFL receivers.  He’s a very solid tackler, excellent returner, and immediate starter in the Chiefs’ secondary.

Round Two, Pick 18—Daryl Washington, ILB, TCU

Daryl Washington, versatile enough to play at any of the linebacker spots, is an exceptional inside blitzer with good recovery speed and solid cover skills.

He’s superb at filling the gaps, plays sideline to sideline, and is a major upgrade to the Chiefs’ defensive front seven.

Verse of this piece

“But before people can ask the Lord for help, they must believe in him; and before they can believe in him, they must hear about him; and for them to hear about the Lord, someone must tell them; and before someone can go and tell them, that person must be sent. It is written, “How beautiful is the person who comes to bring good news.” —Romans 10:14-16

Round Three, Pick Four—Brandon LaFell, WR, LSU

Albeit the Chiefs added Jerheme Urban and re-signed Terrence Cooper in the offseason, integrate their statistics from last season and they and fall short of 25 receptions and 300 yards.

In addition, Chris Chambers’ best days are behind him, Bobby Wade is falling short of expectations, and Dwayne Bowe is coming off a downhill season.

Brandon LaFell is a nice upgrade.  He’s a solid blocker, decent route runner, and a very durable speedster, who’s not afraid to over the middle and be an elite playmaker.
