Now just four days away, the 2010 NFL draft is inching closer and fans are swarming to the latest news, information, and mock draft predictions for their designated teams.
And now it’s time to uncover the first three rounds, team-by-team, before the draft opens its highly anticipated doors.
Part three of this series continues with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers .
Round 1, Pick 1—Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska
Yes, Suh! The Buccaneers invade the draft board and steal the treasure—their new leader, “King NdamuKong. “
The Bucs toss their first and second round picks over to the Rams, but they have another second round pick in their arsenal.
Ndamukong Suh is the safest pick in the draft and could make the biggest impact. This deadly specimen will not only corrupt the opposing line, but will also force one-on-one coverage for the other defensive lineman to plow through and create plays.
Round 2, Pick 10—DeMaryius Thomas, WR, Georgia Tech
As it stands, the Bucs’ starting receivers are Sammie Stroughter and Maurice Stovall . They accumulated an amalgamated total of only 55 receptions, 700 yards, and two TDs last season.
If you wanted to toss in Michael Clayton’s stats from last season and Mark Bradley’s from 2008 (didn’t play last season), they accumulated just 40 receptions, 550 yards, and three TDs.
DeMaryius Thomas is one of the best steals of the entire draft. He has great speed, excellent hands, tremendous work ethic, and he is also a solid blocker.
Thomas will be a huge aid to young Josh Freeman and could have the potential to become the second coming of Calvin Johnson.
Round 3, Pick 3—Javier Arenas, CB, Alabama
After picking up the best prospect in the entire draft and a sweet steal in the second round, Tampa Bay restores their secondary with superstar returner Javier Arenas.
Albeit he looks to be somewhat of a project, 14-year veteran cornerback Ronde Barber is no stranger to playing the mentor role.
With his blazing speed, deadly return skills, and mind boggling passion and energy he brings to the field, paired with some mentoring, he will quickly become a force in the Bucs’ secondary.
