There are three mysteries that American's will never know the answers to: first, what happened to Amelia Earhart, second, how the metric system works and third, why Eva Longoria was invited to the 2008 Home Run Derby, evidently representing the Tampa Bay Rays.
A quick scan of local and nation newspapers as well as Internet sport sites revealed that Eva Longoria was not only invited to participate in the competition, but she also managed to hit three home runs in the first round!
Evidently being the first woman to participate in the event was overshadowed by the selfish performance put forth by Texas Ranger Josh Hamilton who seemed threatened by the attention the bad girl from Wisteria Lane was getting.
Longoria seemed to take it all in stride as no formal interviews or announcements were given to members of the press. Evidently her beauty is only surpassed in her selfless nature.
It would have been easy to take all the attention and steal the athletic spotlight from her husband, former NBA Finals MVP and San Antonio Spurs standout Tony Parker.
However, as Hamilton hit his first round record-setting 28 home runs Longoria was nowhere to be seen. As Minnesota Twins first baseman Justin Morneau topped Hamilton in the finals to take home the title to the land of lakes and casseroles Longoria shied away from the public eye.
Seemed to feel merely content enough to have the opportunity to hit the long ball was enough for the red carpet vixen.

Surely as a guy who is under the age of 65 and still breathing you can think of at least two reasons she was drafted.

Nice job!
Lol at the metric system. That's what drug dealing is for: learning the metric system. How else would teens learn how many grams are in an ounce?

I think that there is no mystery here ... Longoria made it to third base in Fairview by supplanting a very young Gardener prior to joining Tampa Bay. Longoria also stared as an Eagle DH.
Everyone from the Mayor to ex-coach Carlos knew that getting to third base wouldn't be simple with the DH but the transition was smooth enough that Longoria eventually taught the Spurs' Tony Parker how to play the bag.
We'll see how the season progresses but I doubt Carlos will see Longoria back in his dugout now that the bright lights of Tampa Bay have called.
