"People say footballers are thick. Well, we are thick. David Beckham gave the game away on that one when he started talking on the telly." - Neil "Razor" Ruddock.

I wouldn't even dare argue with Razor Ruddock, but after being awarded an honorary Master of Arts degree from Salford University for his contributions to sport and charitable causes, perhaps Ryan Giggs will.

Besides being arguably the most successful professional footballer ever, Giggs is a UNICEF ambassador and campaigns for South African children suffering from HIV and AIDS.

That's top stuff from a top player I reckon.

I'll expect to see Giggs stumbling out of Salford's pubs and clubs with traffic cones on his head from now on then... maybe not... ah, the joys of student life.

  1. greatest british player ever!

  2. Quite a lot of football players are pretty thick, but some are quite intelligent. For example, Petr Cech studies Psychology and (I think) has an A-Level in it. Frank Lampard has a number of GCSE's and got an A* in Latin.

I also remember reading an interview with Lilian Thuram and he was discussing the treatment of immigrants in Paris, and he came across as quite an intelligent person.
