Despite published reports that he's received offers from the Canucks and Canadiens, free agent forward Brendan Shanahan appears interested only in a return to Broadway.
"Brendan still feels he has a job that he wants to finish with the Rangers and he knows he has some good hockey left in him," Shanahan's agent Rick Curran told the Vancouver Province. "He fully intends on playing next year and at the moment, his intention is to play with the Rangers."
Whether the Rangers will have enough cap room to satisfy the free agent winger is another story. If Shanahan does return it will likely be for drastically less than $2.5 million base salary plus bonuses he received last season.
Shanahan was the Rangers third leading scorer last season with 23 goals in 73 games.
As for offers from other teams Shanahan's agent dismissed those rumors.
"I can tell you that I've never been approached or had any discussions with Vancouver regarding Brendan," said Curran. "We've only been having discussions with one team and that's the New York Rangers."

The only way I'll take Shanahan is as an assistant coach...

The only thing left in Shanahan is his 'signature' wristshot in shootouts. He's a great hockey player, but the age takes its 'share of pie'. He's become slow, can not keep the pace with his linemates on the rush. He has to retire.

Not saying Shanahan has much left but he was third on the team in goals last year and that with missing nine games.

and having less ice time then most of the other players ... he still came in 3rd .... what him a jagr did with the younger guys was incredable last year ... just imagine what they can do this year with a season under there belt ... one more then he has to go ... and probably 3rd line .... nothing wrong with it .... just what he would teach these youngers guys is worth it ... and he is gonna take practiclly nothing for pay ... lol what we got to lose ... u know he gives 100 % every shift .... 3rd line 1 yr ...someone get hurts then he plays second or 1 st what ever ... good move if the do it.....

I know most of you would think this is crazy but I would make him captain and only use him for PP and PK

Having Shanny would be just good karma. He's a sure Hall of Famer with a great attitude and work ethic, a true New Yorker from the get-go walking and taking the subway with his kids and he'd be an anchor for the new young, inexperienced Rangers. He can still score, defend, make the beautiful pass and be a mentor for kids like Zherdev, who apparently needs to see what work ethic is all about. He'd also make a great player/assistant coach. The man was born to lead and will make a great head coach someday soon if given the chance.

i don't think he's gonna come back. he may still have another season left in him, but he knows as well as we do that he should retire and go into a front office job

Idefinatly think Shanny has at least one more season in him. Im just praying that he will end up in toronto to be our captain for one year, i think it would be a perfect fit

I think regardless of Shanahan's situation Drury will be the captain of this team next season.
