The Toronto Raptors missed the NBA Playoffs for the second straight season this season. They look like a mess! Will Bosh stay? Fire Triano? Fire Colangelo? Trade Bargnani? Get rid of Turkoglu? Whole new roster? What should the Raptors do? There are many questions but in reality, the Raptors have to move very few pieces in order for them to be a Playoff team. They just have to add more.
He is the MVP of Toronto. He is the only reason the Raptors had a shot at the playoffs this season. I know a lot of people think it'd be better if he leaves, personally, I hope he stays. He is the heart & soul of this Raptors team. Without him, the team has no leader, it has no energy and excitement. If BC can pull off some good moves to compliment Chris Bosh in the off-season, I think he'll stay. 24 Points Per Game and just about 11 Rebounds Per Game, how can you let this guy go?
The Raptors lacked size down low despite having Chris Bosh, Andrea Bargnani, Reggie Evans, Rasho Nesterovich, who which by the way should have gotten way more minutes then he did. But for some reason, without size, the defensive aspect to the game De-creases in terms of skill. Marcus Camby I think would be a great addition to fill that void. Camby is getting old but is still putting up great numbers averaging 11.8 Rebounds Per Game, which, if you can't do the math, is almost 12 Rebounds Per Game.
It's just my opinion but I think that Jarrett Jack is a better fit right now then Jose Calderon. Calderon's value is still pretty high right now and this might be the best time to put him on the market and the Raptors could very well get some talent back in return. Calderon's numbers have De-creased this season & I don't think he brings the excitement and energy that Jack brings with him every night when he plays.
Demar DeRozan is a good player but he shouldn't be a starter, not yet at-least. There are a few good shooting guards available for free agency. I'm looking at you Joe Johnson. That would be a hard deal to achieve but hey, who said it was going to be easy? If the Raptors could add Joe Johnson then I think that would bump them up to that next level of competition.
Since the Raptors missed the playoffs by a game. They now have the 12th pick in the NBA 2010 Entry Draft. Right now Ekpe Udoh is predicted to be around that area. Udoh is a great big player who would add good size to the team. I wouldn't mind seeing him in a Raptors uniform at all. However, if not Ekpe Udoh, I think the Raptors have to go with Gordon Hayward. He brings heart & will to the team and just seems like one of those players that can rise to the occasion in the near future and be a big asset to any team in the NBA.
The Raptors were one of the worst defensive teams in the league this past season. Adding a good defensive player would obviously help that cause. It also fits in well because if the Raptors acquire Marcus Camby then that can fill in the hole that is defense. Camby is averaging 2 Blocks Per Game & about 12 Rebounds Per Game.
Yes they were 6th in 3 Point Percentage this past season, but, Andrea Bargnani has been a streaky shooter over the season, Jarrett Jack has been a solid 3 point man & well Hedo Turkoglu has been off his game. After those three players, the Raptors don't have much options. They have a good bench but, Sonny Weems, Antoine Wright, Marco Bellinelli are not legitimate three point shooters. Adding a solid three point shooter adds that outside shot confidence to the Raptors bench. The fingers point toward Kyle Korver who is a free agent this summer. If not Korver, Matt Miller is also available. These are two guys that would right away improve the Raptors shooting.
With the Raptors new look, there starting line-up would look like this.:.
At Point Guard, Jarrett Jack will and should be the starting PG. At Shooting Guard, Joe Johnson, but only if the Raptors can pull that magic off! Small Forward = Hedo Turkoglu OR Sonny Weems depending on what the Raptors do with Hedo. Power Forward, you keep Chris Bosh. Centre, Andrea Bargnani.
Then the bench could consist of, Point Guard = Marcus Banks. Shooting Guard = Demar DeRozan/Antoine Wright/Kyle Korver. Small Forward = Gordon Hayward/Sonny Weems/Hedo Turkoglu. Power Forward = Marcus Camby/Amir Johnson. Centre = Rasho Nestorvich/Marcus Camby
NOTE: Possible Trades for Marco Bellinelli & Reggie Evans.
