Chris "Beanie" Wells has a history of winning.  The 19-year-old junior has been winning everywhere he goes.

As a freshman, he was part of an Ohio State team that was 12-1, and as a sophomore, his Buckeyes went 11-2.  Both years, though, Wells and the Buckeyes lost in the Championship Game, first to Chris Leak's Florida Gators and then to Matt Flynn's LSU Tigers. In the championship game, Wells rushed for 146 yards on twenty carries and scored a touchdown.

Wells hopes to win a championship this season.

Last year, Wells was arguably the most consistent running back in the game.  He finished with 1,609 yards and 15 touchdowns.  He played all 13 games, and in nine of those he rushed for 100 or more yards.

He even rushed for 200 yards twice, against both Michigan State and Michigan.

Beanie made his mark his freshman year.  Despite splitting carries with Antonio Pittman, Wells had 576 yards on 104 carries and seven touchdowns, averaging six yards per carry.

He left a mark in a 42-39 victory against Michigan.  He finished with 56 yards  and one touchdown on just five carries.  He made one of the best runs of college football in that year, as he juked an infinite number of defenders and went 52 yards for a score.

Wells is probably the best offensive player in the Big Ten.  As of right now, he is the clear cut candidate to win Big 10 Offensive Player of the Year. Ohio State has a tough schedule this year (at USC, Wisconsin, and Illinois), but Chris Wells is no stranger to facing tough teams.

We're dealing with a kid who has killed Michigan since day one.  In two games against Michigan, he has 44 carries, 278 yards, and three touchdown runs.

This year, Wells should lead the Buckeyes to a Big Ten title.

Wells is a very optimistic guy, and he has reason to be.  Buckeye Nation is looking for Wells to carry the Buckeyes to a title and, hopefully, a BCS Championship.

  1. 1. Missouri is not in the Big 10.

    2. Wells is good, but he will need to have at least as good of season as last year to win the Heisman. RB is a tough position. If he stays healthy he will be in the Heisman picture.

    1. yea duh i mean barring a huge injury, he will be in the heisman convo

  2. If Tressel's willing to let him run the ball, there's no reason why the kid shouldn't put up 2000+ rushing yards this season. He always manages to find holes in opposing defenses. Excellent read on the premier stud of the 2008 Buckeyes.

    1. Here's one reason he shouldn't put up 2000+ rushing yards this season: IT'S REALLY HARD TO DO.

    2. Yeah its hard to do, but Ohio State still uses a running offense as opposed to a passing offense and he somehow managed to put up about 1700 yards last season with injuries. I'm not saying he WILL do it, but its possible the kid's rushing yardage could be huge this season.

  3. Ohio State Football: Look Out For...The SEC.

    1. And when I said "game", I meant season but I'm half-awake.

    2. No, Sec. Just so you know, it will be Ohio State and Florida in the National Championship, and the silver bullets are going to shoot through them, we may not when by 4 touchdowns, but we will win!

    3. No, 2008-2009 will be Georgia's turn to beat up on OSU.

    4. Caleb's right.

Then again, if Ohio State loses to USC then the rest of the nation has nothing to worry about: Ohio State won't be anywhere near the BCS championship if they lose to the Trojans.

    5. What, like "OHIO STATE WILL GO 14-0, WIN THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHP AFTER DEFEATING FLORDIA AND GEORGIA AND BEANIE WILL HAVE 3000 RUSHING YARDS"?

      Satisfied?

  4. Wells is definitely a good running back. The best in college football? Definitely one of them. In my opinion, though, Knowshon Moreno's (Georgia) is better, and expect LeSean McCoy to have a monster game

    1. Buying into the Knowshon Moreno media hype, I see.

    2. moreno is undoubtedly the best RB in the country this year. he faced a hell of a tougher schedule than wells did last year and finished with 1300+ yards (which is more than mcfadden had as a freshman). not to mention, wells started the ENTIRE year last year. knowshon had to split carries with brown until brown went down. he was the starter from week five on and still shattered the 1000 yard mark in his first season playing against the SEC

    3. Undoubtedly, huh? Nobody's saying the kid's not good. But shut the fuck up already about this kid. Jesus, he had a really good 5-game stretch last year - let's see him put together an entire season before we start tossing around "undoubtedlies".

    4. that's right, darnell, undoubtedly. because unlike wells, moreno's a versatile back who can do more than just run. hence his 13 YPC average. did i hurt your feelings? you're obviously pissed about something

    5. Moreno has UNDOUBTEDLY had 5 very good games in his entire career.

      Suck a dick.

    6. haha jesus, darnell, i didn't mean to hurt your feelings again. i'm trying to hold a legitimate debate here and you're telling me to suck dicks. you'd sound a lot more intelligent with beanie's cock in your mouth.

    7. I guarantee you his is about three feet longer than Nodick Moreno's.

  5. Thanks Capt Obvious

  6. There is no doubt this season is all about Big Ten pride, and the revenge of the Silver Bullets!

  7. Moreno media hype - DID YOU WATCH HIM AT ALL LAST SEASON? Look at his game against Auburn. Look at how he played against Florida. Puhleeze. The guy's the real deal.

  8. The SEC is going to pound on each other this year. Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida in the East and LSU, Auburn, and Alabama in the West.

  9. You're right - but Beanie Well still drops the ball in important situations - like Steve Slaton did at West Virginia. He's a good rusher, but nothing on Adrian Peterson, Darren McFadden and (dare I say it) Knowshon Moreno.

He'll look good for the Big Ten, but the Big Ten's on another down year - again. And remember, just because Ohio State gets to a National Championship it doesn't mean the Big Ten's particulalry strong. Michigan's loss to Appalachian State, anybody?

    1. Alex, thank you for demonstrating that you essentially don't follow Ohio State football and say things without thinking about them or researching them.

Beanie Wells lost a grand total of ONE fumble last year - and it was against Minnesota in a game that Ohio State won by fourteen million points.

  10. i disagree about the comments that Knowshon Moreno is a better running back then Chris Wells. While Moreno is good, they are two different styles. I look at a overall package and Wells has that. Wells is a better blocker and has a more NFL body they moreno. While Moreno is good in the SEC where the game is not about size but speed (note smaller but faster D linemen, small linebackers) Moreno runs out of a spread offense. Remember what Wells did to LSU he could have went for 200 plus against the tigers who were the best defense in the SEC. Wells game also translates to the pros perfectly he has size to handle blocking schemes and at 6-2 240 he can take the punishment and dish it out as well, he also has the speed (watch the LSU game when he blew past there defenders for the opening score) to outrun linebackers and safeties at the pro level. There was a reason he was the number 1 player in the country out of high school. Moreno is good but he is sec good hes not a Mcfadden or even a emmitt smith hes small frame and speed translates good for sec competition but against the best in the pros hes not a starter. Smaller SEC backs without size do not fare well in the pros aka (cadillac williams and ronnie brown) they can get by on speed for a year or two but eventually the nfl pounding causes them to bow out to injuries more sooner than later.

    1. You're completely correct. I'm sorry. I still don't think he's the best running back in college football. But if Chris Wells gets more yards than any other running back in Division I-A football (or runs for 2,000 yards), I'll gladly - at the end of the season - write an article saying: "Why Chris Wells is the best running back in college football".

I promise. You can't hold me to that. I only wish I could edit my comments....

    2. I don't know about 2,000 YDS, but i think he'll finish with 1,700 and 20 td, which puts him in the convo for heisman

  11. oh and for Alex, Wells had fumble problems as a freshman. But name me a situation where he dropped the ball in a important situation, as a matter of fact name a situation where he fumbled at all last year hes sophomore year, take your time i'll wait lol.

  12. new flash compare beanies game vs LSU and the other guys

    1. Not entirely sure where you're going with this, but he was doing the one thing the rest of the Buckeye offense couldn't do: Get past LSU's defensive linemen. Why Tressel opted to go for something flashier (and subsequently disastrous) when it was clear giving the ball to Beanie was the only thing working, I have no idea...

  13. Well, just being objective here but I have to give Wells credit. He did have a great game against the best defense in the SEC last year in the championship. Also, that same Michigan team that lost to App state did turn around and beat florida in their bowl game last year. I will say when comparing these 2 backs, I think I like Wells, who has very good breakaway speed that he showed early in last years bcs championship, and the ability to run over a linebacker to pick up that extra yard on the goal line.
