Canadiens Lineup: Guy Carbonneau Demotes Michael Ryder

IconMontreal Canadiens coach Guy Carbonneau has run out of patience with Michael Ryder.

Tom Kostopoulus will find himself on the right wing with Saku Koivu and Chris Higgins when the Habs face the Buffalo Sabres on Friday night.

Ryder will wing the third line with Bryan Smolinski and Steve Begin.

Carbonneau is hoping that the new lineup will encourage Ryder to trust his instincts and shoot the puck more. The coach has used a similar strategy with young winger Guillaume Latendresse.

Ryder said he understands what Carbonneau is trying to do.

"He's looking to change things up, getting some scoring from different lines, probably trying to get me going," Ryder told reporters. "Maybe change is good, just to switch things up and we'll see how it goes. You never know. Sometimes you change things up and you play a little different."

After back-to-back 30 goal seasons, Ryder has found the net just twice in the first first 17 games of '07-'08.
