Jorge Cantu stands alone atop the major league record books. No player in the modern era has ever successfully driven in a run in 9 games to start a major league season. Tack on last year's fantastic finish and it's 14 without a break in the offensive action. Where did this guy come from? The Tampa Bay Devil Rays had no trouble leaving him on the scrap heap and fortunately for the Fish, that scared off any other potential suitors. His powerful presence in the Marlins lineup has paid dividends since the opening crack of his swing. He is swatting .308 with 3 round trippers and almost two ribbies a night for 15 total. They will need every last bit of his nearly .700 slugging average in the upcoming series against the National League Champion Phillies over the weekend. But one thing is for certain, the soon to be Miami Marlins have found a 3rd baseman and clutch hitter that will hopefully be sticking around for a while. As long as he doesn't start putting up Texiera type numbers, the Fish will be safe from poachers like the Evil Empire. South Florida baseball fans would love to see him at the hot corner when the state of the art ballpark opens in 2012. Jorge Can Too!! Keep it going tonight in Philly!!
