Is Cristiano Ronaldo Real Madrid's Money-Manipulated Puppet?

Angela AsanteApr 15, 2010

Real Madrid are a "Funny Circus" and Cristiano Ronaldo is a "Boring Clown". This is what Real Madrid and Cristiano Ronaldo haters believe and keep saying. But could this opinion be a true fact, who is the master and who is the slave? Arenโ€™t Los Blancos abusing of CR9? Hasnโ€™t the grown kid of Madeira turned into the Spanish giantsโ€™ puppet?

Letโ€™s look at some interesting facts and aspects behind this thought. All opinions will be welcomed as we debate and discuss this delicate issue. The question clearly speaks for itself: Is Cristiano Ronaldo Real Madridโ€™s money-manipulated puppet?

Cristiano Ronaldoโ€™s World Record ยฃ 80 Million Transfer โ€”The Beginning of the Puppet Game

If you have been signed for a world record breaking fee and if you are being paid astronomical sums of money each month, then you obviously have to produce extraordinary performances and influence your teamโ€™s fate like a god of football. That is an obvious idea and an evident conclusion (debatable, though) that surely stands in the agreement reached between Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid since the day that the former Manchester United winger joined the Spanish outfit.

Cristiano Ronaldo, however, made it clear that he was not to be regarded as Real Madridโ€™s sole savior and that every team member had to be responsible of their respective duties. But Real Madrid also offered themselves the ultimate right to secure the legs of their โ‚ฌ 94 million capture at all cost. Now their "Cristiano Ronaldo Safe Policy" appears to come at quite a prize for the 25-year-old Portugal captain.

Are Real Madrid Stealing Cristiano Ronaldo Away from His Identity?

Saturday, February 21, 2010. The Madeira Island got stricken by a sudden disaster. Landslides took the life of many and left hundreds in a devastated state. A day after, Real Madrid hosted Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabeu for a crunch encounter and Cristiano Ronaldo seized that moment as an opportunity to send a message of sadness to his homeland.

He opened the score sheet after 17 minutes through a trademark free-kick and celebrated his goal by holding off his shirt with his teeth and showing up his underwear on which he had hand-written โ€˜MADEIRAโ€™ in capital letters. It was an emotional moment for the Portugal captain. (re-live that moment here)

He emerged as the undisputed hero in that game which Real Madrid shockingly won 6-2. It was his emotional feelings, his love for his homeland Madeira that motivated him to inspire Real Madrid to yet another vital victory in La Liga. But then in spite of all that, it was reported that Real Madrid disallowed the 25-year-old millionaire from offering further help to his people.

Cristiano Ronaldo had to cancel his participation in a FC Porto organized charity match which was designed to restore the ravaged Madeira Island. Football analysts suggested that Real Madrid were not only afraid that Cristiano Ronaldo would lose his focus, but also afraid that the player would pick up a "bad luck" injury in such an "unnecessary" event.

Isnโ€™t that enough to confirm that Real Madrid are robbing Cristiano Ronaldoโ€™s liberty and identity as if CR9 had become their puppet since being a Madridista? Well, perhaps notโ€ฆ

Family Death Tragedy Less Important Than a Training Day? You Must Be Joking!

Thursday, March 11, 2010. Cristiano Ronaldo's cousin, Amilcar Miguel Dos Santos Fernandes dies in a car accident. The news is sent to Cristiano Ronaldo. The millionaire immediately flies to Portugal to assist his family as they mourn the tragic death of his relative. The day is said to be a black one, and the Portuguese play maker describes it as โ€œone of the saddest days in his lifeโ€. (get more info on the cousin's death here)

But Cristiano Ronaldo doesnโ€™t stay for the funeral. Instead, he quickly flies back to Spain to attend Real Madridโ€™s morning training session as the Spanish giants are looking to bounce back from their painful Champions League last sixteen exit which occurred a day before.

Stop.

Letโ€™s pause here before criticizing Real Madrid of manipulating Cristiano Ronaldo or of being anything disrespectful to the 25-year-old man.

If Cristiano Ronaldo didnโ€™t remain in Portugal for his late funeral, it was because the country doesnโ€™t allow day-offs for family death reasons according to reports. BUT, the obvious question that one could ask is this:

Why did Real Madrid not give a day-off, then, for the emotionally shocked and confused Cristiano Ronaldo? Weโ€™ve seen clubs do just that! Manchester City can be taken as an example after they allowed time for striker Emmanuel Adebayor to settle on his return to England following the tragic bus attack incident which occurred in Angola just before the start of the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations.

How El Clasico and Lionel Messi Ridiculed Real Madridโ€™s ยฃ 80 Million Ace like a Puppet

Saturday, April 10, 2010. El Clasico appeared as a vital game in La Ligaโ€™s title race and many portrayed it as the championshipโ€™s decider. The two players singled out to make the trick for their respective club were Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Lionel Messi is a former Barcelona youth player whereas Cristiano Ronaldo is a ยฃ 80 Million former Champions League, Ballon dโ€™Or, and FIFA Player of the Year award winner. On the pitch, Cristiano Ronaldo and his team got humbled 2-0 by the worldโ€™s current FIFA Player of the Year titleholder Lionel Messi and his Barcelona side.

Cristiano Ronaldo could only watch in anger, humiliation, and frustration as the Argentine wonder kid celebrated his opener in front of him and the crowd. CR9, meanwhile, managed a few low shots that never troubled Barcelonaโ€™s goalkeeper Victor Valdes. (watch video El Clasico video highlights here)

His negative body gestures were teased by the public who praised Lionel Messi. Adding to his anxiety, Real Madrid spectators whistled him for the first time since his arrival at the club.

Miracles and super heroism are what the home crowd expected from Cristiano Ronaldo in that titanic Real Madrid vs Barcelona clash. Fans simply wanted to understand why Cristiano Ronaldo is the worldโ€™s most expensive player and why they pay huge amounts of money to watch him perform every week. As for the Spanish media, they didnโ€™t waste time to ridicule the ยฃ 80 Million signing even more with hostile opinions against him written all over the papers and stated on TV shows.

Now anyone will easily conclude after the star wingerโ€™s miserable night during El Clasico: this is what you get when you are yet to pay back your wages by assuming your tasks. You will be the victim of boos, mockeries, and insults unless you cheer up the crowdโ€ฆjust like a puppet is meant to amuse the public during a show on stage.

Ironic: Real Madrid Get Sweet Juice from the Pressurized Cristiano Ronaldo

After the huge disappointment that emerged from Real Madridโ€™s El Clasico defeat and Cristiano Ronaldoโ€™s unconvincing performance, the Spanish club heard good news at last. Reports from Portuguese publication A Bola indicated that around 1.2 million Cristiano Ronaldo jerseys had been sold in Madrid only. Not even Zinedine Zidane, Brazilโ€™s Ronaldo, or David Beckham helped Real Madrid experience such a fruitful income in their first year at the club! (read that news here)

Now as one Cristiano Ronaldo shirt sells at โ‚ฌ 85, we understand that Real Madrid have now been able to cover the former Manchester United star wingerโ€™s โ‚ฌ 94 Million transfer fee! But does it mean that Cristiano Ronaldo has somehow been relieved from the load of duties that got on his shoulders after moving to Spain for a world-record breaking fee?

Certainly not! The Portuguese play maker remains tied up with pressure in his mission to lead Real Madrid to success. What is ironic there is that Real Madrid have freed themselves from economic risks that surrounded their daring ยฃ 80 Million move for Cristiano Ronaldo. However, the player himself is yet to accomplish anything really in terms of titles. He is even in danger of ending his first season at Real Madrid without a single trophy.

So Cristiano Ronaldoโ€™s โ‚ฌ 94 Million transfer fee has been covered through shirt sales only. But the moneyโ€™s ghost is still knocking at the door for the player to repay every penny with hard work and historical success.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Once a Red Devil, Now a White Puppet?

Cristiano Ronaldo fans anxiously wonder about the playerโ€™s state of happiness at Real Madrid. Some rue his transfer decision as the biggest mistake in his life. Many mourn his glorious days at Manchester United already and dream of seeing him playing under a Red Devil jersey again.

Real Madrid secured Cristiano Ronaldoโ€™s signature in the summer of the year 2009 after it seemed like the Portugal captain had ended a long mental battle involving his commitment to Manchester United, the fulfillment of his childhood dream, and his obsession for success at a different level through a different challenge. It took Florentino Perezโ€™s daring dream club plan to lure the 2008 FIFA World Player of the Year for a world-record breaking free of ยฃ 80 Million.

But when Cristiano Ronaldo finally decided to remove his number seven Red Devil shirt and put on the number nine White jersey, was he actually selling his mind, his body, his heart, in fact his liberty and all his soul to the Spanish giantsโ€™ money?

Cristiano Ronaldo owns the title of the worldโ€™s most expensive football star and his new challenge, perhaps, is to grow into an incomparable savior in Real Madridโ€™s history. In other words, his mission is to become Madridโ€™s greatest every soccer star and perhaps even the planetโ€™s greatest player ever.

The accomplishment of this task might see him freed completely from the chains and ropes of expectations that presently tie him. Success will enlighten him and surely immortalize him. But as at now, it seems like Cristiano Ronaldo is the slave of his โ‚ฌ 94 Million tag price title and the puppet of Francoโ€™s team Real Madrid.
