Elin Nordegren, Tiger Woods, and the Ugliest Divorces in Sports
When the divorce between Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren inevitably goes down, it will undoubtedly be one of the ugliest, messiest and most costly divorces we have ever seen play out. But that is most definitely not a first for the sports world.
Golf's golden boy and his sexy, Swedish nanny trophy wife just may set the new standard, but before it all happens, let's see where they stack up with some of the worst marriages in sports history.
No. 8: Dennis Rodman and Carmen Electra
In 1998, Rodman shocked the world by marrying the stunningly beautiful Carmen Electra. After all, this was the same guy who died his hair all sorts of colors, was tatted up all over his body and even wore a wedding dress himself.
To marry a Playmate, especially one as famous as Electra, was incredible.
However, just 10 days after the intoxicated nuptials, the marriage was annulled. I guess that means it took Electra 10 whole days to sober up and realize what she had done.
That must have been some bender!
No. 7: Greg and Laura Norman
The Shark wasn't so shark-like when he filed for divorce from his wife Laura. He claimed that he had found the "love of his life" in Chris Evret.
That little indiscretion cost him $100 million. And the kicker? He and Evret split up less than two years later. I know Norman is famous for blowing it but that's a doozie.
No. 6: Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe
It was supposed to be the perfect marriage. The most famous and popular baseball player in the world with the biggest starlet in the world. It was a match made in heaven.
Too bad someone forgot to tell those two. Monroe filed for divorce less than a year after they were wed, claiming "mental cruelty" on Joltin' Joe's part.
No. 5: Michael and Juanita Jordan
For somebody that strove to be the best in every walk of life, it may have killed Jordan a little bit to know that he didn't have the hottest wife compared to many of his teammates and competitors.
He was legendarily unfaithful and some even blamed his influence on Tiger's wandering ways. Whatever the case may have been, Jordan got hit for $168 million dollars when it was all said and done.
Hey, go big or go home, right?
No. 4: Chuck Finley and Tawny Kitean
It's a sad fact but abuse in marriages is not exactly a rarity in the sports world. These guys are wound so tight that sometimes it carries off the field.
But it's a whole different story when it comes to Chuck Finley and actress Tawny Kitean. See, she was the one who was beating him up!
Kitean was certifiably out of her mind and even the nanny got in on the divorce proceedings saying that the kids would ask her if mommy was "whacked out" that day.
No. 3: Tiki and Ginny Barber
Although this is brand spankin' new and not even finalized yet, it can't get much juicier than this.
Not only did Tiki Barber leave his wife of 11 years for a 21-year-old intern at NBC, but he did it when his wife was eight months pregnant. That will not end well.
Looks like Barber didn't want Tiger and Jesse James to hold the "Most Hated Men In America" title by themselves this year.
No. 2: Mike Tyson and Robin Givens
Yeah, we're not that shocked that this didn't work out either, but what was shocking was just how bad it all went wrong.
After eight months of a bad public marriage, Givens filed for divorce. She said Tyson had made her life a living hell, beat her, and that she was afraid to even be around him anymore.
Tyson responded by biting off her ear.
No. 1: OJ Simpson and Nicole Brown
It doesn't get any worse than this.
Brown filed for divorce from Simpson claiming that he was physically abusive and jealous of her flirtations with other men. Simpson claimed that she got her bruises from just wrestling around with him.
They were eventually divorced and we all know how it all ended.
