Carlos Delgado Plans To Sign Mid-Season - With The New York Mets?

Keith BennettCorrespondent IApril 14, 2010

Carlos Delgado was back in the Mets clubhouse Tuesday, dressed in street clothes for baseball. He's hoping  that will change later this year, but for now, Delgago is recovering from his second hip surgery in less than one year.

The 37-year-old free agent and former Mets first baseman has spent the last eight weeks in Vail, Colorado where he underwent surgery to reconstruct the labrum in his right hip.

He visited his former teammates before their series opener against the Rockies at Coors Field,  chatting at length with Alex Cora and Johan Santana, among others.

The rumor had been that the Mets were interested in signing him earlier in the offseason before he had his second surgery but Delgado told MLB. com that a contract offer from his former team never came.

Of course, he could still end up on the Mets this season if the team continues to fall apart and he shows some signs of full recovery this summer.

Carlos had a good career with the Mets. He not the same Carlos Delgado in previous years. Ike Davis will be a Met very soon.

Good luck Carlos.
