The key to a Roethlisberger trade

According to John Fedko of WPXI-TV in Pittsburgh, PA, via ProFootballTalk.com rumors of Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger being traded are flying. One of which has Roethlisberger going to the Saint Louis Rams in exchange for the first pick overall this year and a first round pick in 2011.

However, there is one thing that is key to Roethlisberger being even traded at all and that is what the Steelers think of quarterback Dennis Dixon.

Prior to the 2008 National Football League Draft Dixon was projected to go high in the Draft until he suffered a anterior cruciate ligament injury. That injury caused him to slip to the fifth round to where the Pittsburgh Steelers took him.

With Dixon having two seasons under his belt if the Steelers thought he could be a franchise quarterback he would be able to start right away.

In addition last year when Roethlisberger was out with a concussion Dixon started against the Baltimore Ravens and held his own considering it was his first start ever as he was 12 of 26 for a 46.2 completion percentage while throwing for 145 yards with a touchdown and a interception.

In the end, as hard as quarterback are to find trading him away is the right thing to do as at this point he is one wrong move away from a long stint in jail.
