Duke Basketball: Do The Plumlees Need Kyrie Irving To Flourish?

Next season can either be a tough season or a season similar to this previous one. It will take rebuilding but I'm assuming Coach K is a coach experienced enough to knowwhat he's doing...

As you all may know, Duke will unfortunately lose several players to the NBA draft- Brian Zoubek, Lance Thomas, Jon Scheyer and perhaps Kyle Singler. Two of which were part of "The Big Three".

But the major problem here is the big men. The Blue Devils will be losing their newborn star senior Brian Zoubek along with his fellow big man Lance Thomas. This leaving the Plumlees to take over in the paint.

This is when Coach K made a brilliant decision. He recruited one of the top point guards in the nation.

His name is Kyrie Irving, and he knows how to get it done.

But the question is, do the Plumlees need Kyrie Irving to flourish?

Simply put, yes. Let me explain.

Last season, Duke has struggled in one area- having a point guard.

That's the reason why Brian Zoubek was unable to score. He was forced to get offensive rebounds in order for him to have to ball down low. Now Duke has a pure bred point guard and it will have a huge impact.

The Plumlees will arise in remarkable numbers. As Kyrie Irving gains confidence at the college level, his assists will rise immensely, along with the points for the Plumlees.

Now, I'm pretty sure you all are thinking that the wing men won't excel in terms of points but they can, here's why:

Kyrie Irving will have 3 possibilities that will guide his team once he drives to the hole. He can finish off the play by himself, dish it to Miles or Mason, or he will have the possibility to kick the ball out to Nolan Smith, Seth Curry or Andre Dawkins.

This guy is the key to help the Plumlees succeed, the wing men succeed and most of all, his team.
