The 2010 NFL Draft is nearing and for many Raider fans, its another year of who will Al Davis pick?. Will  Al Davis and the "Cableman" pick up players that will make a difference? Players such as McFadden, Higgins, Murphy, Morrison, Bush and Miller have played very well.  Then there's new arrivals such as Darrius Heyward-Bey  who had a tough time last year but his workouts should improve his catching abilities.

So what do the Oakland Raiders need to get back at the top of their game. How can the Raiders overcome these past seasons of losing and become a powerhouse in the AFC West? How?

The answer is that the Oakland Raiders need a talented and experienced QB. With so many young new speedy WR's, the Raiders need a QB that can hit the numbers everytime. If the Oakland Raiders want to get back into playoff contention then Al Davis needs a General at QB.

All the pieces are there for the Oakland Raiders to win games. In the secondary they have Asomugha who is the best CB around and Chris Johnson should see improvement. Johnson is solid  but not consistent. I have seen him get burned quite a bit. Its a small issue now, but Cable wil watch and decide for himself. As for the defensive line, the addition of Richard Seymour was simply brilliant. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Oakland Raiders pick a defensive lineman first round. A pass rusher.

As for the hands of the Raider WR corp, well its basically young talent in need of a accurate QB. Louis Murphy is simply a star. Johnnie Lee Higgins has also showed his talent and speed. Chaz Schilens is another WR ready to expose his talents. This is a very fast WR corp but the Raiders lost games because balls were thrown behind, below or anywhere but the right place last year. If you noticed, when a ball was thrown correctly the players had excellent hands.

McFadden has great hands and heart . Mcfadden and Bush could be a great force this year provided the team can find a real QB. A talented QB could open the running game for the Raiders as well as the vertical attack.

Defensively the Raiders need more sacks and hurries. gerard Warren was cut and he was strong but was another player who was not consistent. Stopping the run will be another issue addressed draft time. The Oakland Raiders need power at the line and the draft should provide excellent choices. Kirk Morrison and Thomas Howard have been solid and Trevor Scott could be the factor the Raiders need.

As I have mentioned prior, the Oakland Raiders are a talent bunch and just need leadership at the QB position. Question is who fits the mold? Gradkowski? Russell? I am not sold on either QB, but if given the choice I would play Gradkowski. Had the Raiders picked up McNabb he would have been a perfect fit. I dont expect him to do well in Washington.

This writer will not try to guess who will QB the Oakland Raiders because only the great Al knows. I believe that Al will chose wisely on the 23rd.

How much closer are the Raiders away from playoff contention?  The answer is a talented QB away.
