2010 SMCAA TOURNAMENT – SOUTHWEST REGION – FIRST ROUND

         #28 James Madison 59, #37 Monmouth 57

    Ben Louis hit a step back 15 foot jump shot at the buzzer to give James Madison a dramatic 59-57 win over Monmouth in a SMCAA Southwest 1st round game.  Louis’s game winner was possible after Darren White (11 points had tied the game at 57 all with 21 seconds left on a shot from the right wing.  Pierre Curtis and Matt Parker each added 10 points for the Dukes, who shot only 37% from the field.
    The Hawks, who led 31-29 at the half, were led by Whitney Coleman, who had 16 points, and Mike Keitt, who added 10.

        SOUTHWEST REGION 2ND ROUND: #28 James Madison vs. #5 Utah State

        #21 Lehigh 79, #44 Alcorn State 77

    Gabe Knutson drained a shot at the buzzer to propel Lehigh to a 79-77 win in a 1st round Southwest game over a gritty Alcorn State team.  Knutson, who led all scores with 21 points, was the hero after Keith Searcy (14 points) had tied the game at 77 on a floater with less than 2 seconds left for the Braves.  C.J. McCollum added 13 and Marquis Hall had 11 for the Mountain Hawks.
    Alcorn State was led by JaMarkus Holt, who had 18 points and 11 rebounds.  Jonathan Boyd added 12 points for the Braves.

        SOUTHWEST REGION 2ND ROUND: #21 Lehigh vs. #12 Sam Houston State

        #26 San Francisco 80, #39 Winston-Salem State 79

    Michael Williams hit a game winning 3 pointer with 27 seconds left to lift San Francisco to 80-79 win over Winston-Salem State in a thrilling Southwest 1st round contest.  Williams, who had 12 points, hit the winner after Marcus Wells hit a three of his own to give the Rams a 79-77 lead with 43 seconds left.  Kwame Vaughn led the Dons with 16 points, and Dior Lowhorn (15 points) and Angelo Caloiaro (14 points) also reached double figures for USF.
    Wells, who had 11 points, was one of four Rams in double figures.  Paul Davis led WSSU with 20 points and led the Rams back from a 68-60 2nd half deficit, but could not secure the win.

        SOUTHWEST REGION 2ND ROUND: #26 San Francisco vs. #7 Mississippi State

         #27 Northern Arizona 76, #38 California State-Bakersfield 62

    Northern Arizona got 26 points from Cameron Jones en route to 76-62 Southwest 1st round win over Cal State-Bakersfield.  Jones, who shot 11-17 from the field, also added 5 rebounds and 3 assists in the contest.  Shane Johnannsen and Gabe Rogers each added 11 points apiece for the Lumberjacks, who shot 57% from the field.
    The Roadrunners were led by Santwon Latunde and his 13 points.  Stephon Carter added 10, but CS-B could only manage to shoot 40% from the field.
