Overview
The LSU Tigers will begin the 2008 SEC season with lofty expectations once again. They will try to defend their National Title behind the leadership of a new QB. SEC Championship Game MVP, Ryan Perrilloux, was booted from the team just after spring practice following a series of off-the-field incidents that have plagued him throughout his career.
However, whoever wins the starting job will have plenty of support, behind a veteran LSU offensive line with two All-SEC performers in Ciron Black and Herman Johnson, and a rich stable of talented running backs including Keiland Williams and Richard Murphy.
LSU will once again field a loaded defense and should rank near the top of the nation in most defensive categories during the 2008 season. Tyson Jackson and Ricky-Jean Francois should lead what might be the most ferocious front four in all of college football.
Should LSU be able to find some talented youth to plug in the gaps left at corner-back and linebacker, this should be one of the most talented defenses in the SEC.
Expectations for this LSU team are nothing short of a return to Atlanta with a berth in the SEC Championship Game. Their return trip will depend largely on the play of their young QB and emerging talent on the defensive side of the ball.
In any case, LSU will be one of the stronger teams in the SEC in 2008 and will enter the season as one of the favorites to win the SEC West.
Stay tuned for the full 2008 SEC Football Preview, which will include an in-depth position-by-position breakdown of the LSU Tigers, along with every other SEC team.
