Unless they are able to get a great package of picks (like a 1st and 2nd round pick)via trade then they should take Roland McClain LB. from alabama with the 7th pick. then knowing you have a potental future star at linebacker to blossom your 3-4 defense, they should try to land Cameron Mayes SS. from USC. even thou he has coverage concerns, his size, speed, and athletic ability should make him very coachable for a 3-4 scheme who like to match-ups safety’s man-to-man with tight-ends. Have your choice of Colt McCoy, Tony pike, or Dan Lefeavor to be the future of the franchise. I think now that they have rewarded Cribbs for his special teams play, at 26 he his prime to be used as a special weapon. with a veteran QB. in Delhomme( and the growing creativity in play-calling and design), Cribbs should be a defensive nightmare! This will go good with a quality yard-gaining running back, (via Marshawn lynch like) and a quality agile open space running back who can return kicks and punts( via Jahvid best, Dexter McCluster like) you could run multiple Two back formations( mostly West coast formations), with Cribbs, put or motion him to the slot. if ran effectively this take pressure off and open up opportunity for guys like Robinske and Muhammad. An athletic sure-handed,at least very descent, route-running(is Martin Rucker a Free agent?) tight-end would complement greatly especially if they can find a fullback who can block and catch-well. this could help strategy as, if good enough, the second tight-end. I believe that would give Delhomme a lot of options and could help to revive him as a Super Bowl reaching Quarterback. As far as the offensive line goes, I think they should move Steinbach to the Right-Tackle, move Pashos inside to Right-Guard, and draft a promising young Left-Guard to complete with a young veteran. As far as the defense goes, i think they should keep Shaun Rogers, but move him to Right-End, let Rubin play the Nose Tackle and see what you can find at Left-End. Let Marcus Benarnd, Trusnik, and Chris Gocong battle it out at Right OLB, and let Matt Roth and Viekune battle it out at Left OLB. Fujita, McClain, and another high-quality tackler in the inside, and make Miava from USC your utility and special teams tackling Linebacker. I would move Sheldon Brown to Free Safety especially if we land Cameron Mayes( who would have Abram Elam as a mentor), you have Eric Wright on one side, so let Mcdonald, a rookie, and quality free agent battle it out on the other side.
