Ricky Williams has been reinstated by commissioner Roger Goodell after 18 months of suspensions for positive marijuana tests. If I am the Miami Dolphins, I welcome him back with open arms.
It's not like he made it rain in a strip club and inspired a triple shooting. He's just a friendly modern day hippie. In a different decade he'd be hanging out with Bill Walton and considered a hero.
Of course there is the down side that he might test positive again for marijuana at some point—but so what? Better to have him for a little while than for no time at all.
With a banged up Ronnie Brown, a winless season, and a new quarterback to try out, something has to give. Williams could be the spark the Dolphins need to get out of their funk.
If he has anything left in his tank, he could help the Dolphins. Not only could he get some yards, he could attract some fans and create some kind of energy in Miami.
The only legitimate down side would be if any clubhouse issues arose from bringing him back. But he is not the clubhouse cancer that many other players have proven to be when unhappy. He just wants his paycheck. If the other players can respect that, there will be no problems.
Welcome home, Ricky!
