The Home Run Derby: Fun or Destructive?
Earlier this month Alex Rodriguez decided not to participate in the 2009 Home Run Derby because it messes up players' swings.
I think if you're a professional baseball player, you should be able to control your swing. But that's just me.
So A-Rod never tries to hit homers during BP, he never uppercuts to see who can hit the ball farther? Never? I don't think so. What does this say about the man who has a great chance to hit the most home runs ever?

So one of the greatest hitters is skipping out on the derby while it's in Yankee Stadium, the stadium he plays in. We had an even worse excuse from roided-up Barry Bonds last year; he had a party. Whatever.
The truth is A-Rod is just not a true competitor—why do you think he can't perform in the playoffs? He doesn't care!.. Hey, look it's an article about A-Rod that doesn't mention Madonna.
Anyway, let's get back to this year's derby. The eight sluggers are:
- Lance Berkman, Hou, S
- Ryan Braun, Mil, R
- Dan Uggla, Fla, R
- Chase Utley, Phi, L
- Josh Hamilition, Tex, L
- Evan Longoria, TB, R
- Grady Sizemore, Cle, L
- Justin Morneau, Min, L
I feel that a lefty will win this year because of Yankee Stadium's Short Porch.
Second round:
- Chase Utley
- Josh Hamiliton
- Grady Sizemore
- Justin Morneau
As you can see, they are all lefties in the second round. The reason I didn't put switch-hitting Lance Berkman in is because I don't know if he has enough power from the left.
Championship:
- Chase Utley
- Josh Hamilition
I am from Cleveland and I want to see Grady win, but I dont think he has enough power to get to the championship. Ditto to Justin Morneau.
Champion:
- Josh Hamilition
I think his huge tank of pure power beats Utley in the Final round by three-five dingers.
