Philadelphia Eagles Quarterback Kevin Kolb Is Ready, but Is Philly?

11 years.
11 years with McNabb under center.
11 years of ifs, wouldas, and almosts.
So now, after 11 years, Donovan McNabb has moved on. He's a Washington Redskin.
During his tenure, there was tons of questions from Philadelphia fans.
There were disagreements among Eagles rooters. Let him go? Keep him?
No doubt, McNabb had some great moments here. Heck, he was one of the top quarterbacks when he was at his best.
But he's gone.
Now, there are still questions.
And, of course, the biggie: Is Kolb ready?
And the big answer: Absolutely.
Drafted in the second round in 2007, Kolb waited eagerly for his chance. He made his debut in a 2008, mostly playing in blowouts. He looked anxious to me this year, throwing four picks and no touchdowns.
The next year, McNabb went down in the first game of the year against the Carolina Panthers. Kolb played the remainder of that game.
The very next week, Kolb got his big chance.
He started his very first game ever against one of the best defenses in the league: The New Orleans Saints, eventual Super Bowl champions.
Kolb threw three picks against the tough D, although one was thrown on a Hail Mary when the game was already over. Despite the interceptions, it was a great day for Kolb.
He completed 31 of 51 passes, and threw for 391 yards with two TD's, including a long 71 yarder to DeSean Jackson.
The next week, he started again, this time against a Chiefs team with a terrible defense.
He went 24 for 34 with 327 yards, making him the first QB ever to throw for over 300 yards in each of his first two starts. He threw another pair of touchdowns in this game, and another long one, this time 64 yards, to Jackson.
That was pretty much it for Kolb in '09, as he didn't see many snaps the rest of the season. But he showed us that he could play, and made some believers.
So now, it's on him. He's the starting quarterback. And yes, he's ready.
After three years of barely any time at all, you better believe Kolb is ready for it. If I'm him, I'm busting my butt to get better right now. I'm pumped.
The real question: Is Philadelphia ready?
Are we ready to let go of McNabb? Are we ready to accept the fact that Kolb is our starter? Are we ready to admit Kolb gave some hope last year?
I know that there are many Eagles fans who are not in favor of the trade, even some who want to see Kolb screw up.
But it's time to change that attitude.
Because Kevin Kolb is ready for the 2010-2011 season.
This time, as the starting quarterback.
