Prospect-A-Day Packers Edition: Jerry Hughes (TCU)

Adam BayerContributor IIApril 9, 2010

Starting my prospect a day series, I'll start out with what seems to be a fan favorite. Today's prospect is Jerry Hughes out of Texas Christian University.

This converted running back was a two-time All-American, two-time Bronco Nagurski Trophy nominee, and the Walter Camp Award honorable member. Not a bad rap sheet for the DE/OLB out of TCU. These factors make him a hot commodity in this year's draft.

At 6'2'', 255 pounds, Hughes will make the move to outside linebacker in the NFL and he has drawn the comparison to Baltimore LB Terrell Suggs. Not a bad label for Hughes.

Hughes ran a 4.69 at the combine and showed good explosiveness. He plays with a mean streak and high intensity motor. He can hold his ground and is extremely disruptive when let loose. He also has good range and takes good routes to the ball.

Where does he fit in Green Bay

Some people are not a big Hughes fan. With his intensity and raw skill, Capers could groom him and make him a force across from Clay Matthews. Hughes and Matthews would give Green Bay a nasty rush combo for years to come.

Check back tomorrow for Prospect II: Taylor Mays (USC)
