Coach Steve Lavin has identified and hired a strong New York recruiter for his coaching staff: Drexel assistant Tony Chiles. Chiles, a Drexel Assistant and South Bronx product, gives the former UCLA coach a much-needed staffer with a strong track record  of recruiting in New York. The 42-year-old Chiles has been a presence on the New York basketball scence his entire life. Before taking the position at Drexel Five seasons ago, he was recruiting coordinator for Iona for six years, helping the Gaels and then-coach Jeff Ruland win a pair of Metro Atlantic titles. Before that he was a staffer at Manhattan College under Fran Fraschilla. Tony is well-liked in just about every circle in the city. St. John's need a strong recruiter with NYC ties. Mo Hicks from Rice High School is one. Steve Lavin should take his time on picking his staff.
