Donovan McNabb's Trade to Washington: Fantasy Football Impact

One of the budding controversies of the NFL offseason was brought to an end when the Eagles traded QB Donovan McNabb to the division rival Washington Redskins for a second round pick in the 2010 draft and a conditional pick in the 2011 draft, likely a third or fourth rounder.


Some people are surprised that the Eagles would trade McNabb to a division rival, but this is not even the first high-profile trade between these two teams for a star quarterback.

Hall of Fame QB Sonny Jurgensen was traded from the Eagles to the Redskins in 1964, despite being 30 years old and having made two Pro Bowls and one All-Pro First Team.


There have been plenty of other examples of high-profile quarterbacks being traded or allowed to sign with division rivals. The New England Patriots traded Drew Bledsoe in their division by trading him to the Buffalo Bills in 2002. The Seattle Seahawks let QB Dave Krieg sign with the Kansas City Chiefs in 1992. The New York Jets released QB Chad Pennington after trading for Brett Favre in 2008, and Pennington signed with the Miami Dolphins.


Those guys have all made Pro Bowls and had success with their organizations, but other than Jurgensen, none of them are Hall of Famers...
