Kevin: Did you see this coming? Did you expect the Sonics to be playing in Oklahoma the next NBA season?
Jeff: It definitely came to me as a shock when the settlement said that they would be playing next year. I'm pretty sure we all assumed that we would have a little more time to spend with this time. If I expected it I would have cherished every moment last season in all of its 20-win glory.
Kevin: Haha, talk about foreshadowing..this was posted on april 13th, the last game the sonics played in Seattle..http://www.seatownsports.net/2008/04/one-angry-sonics-fan.html
Kevin: It was a shock, but this day probably was inevitable, no fan deserves what just happened to us.
Kevin: Do you feel any regrets as a fan?
Jeff: Well I just regret that there weren't more successful seasons that I have in my memory. I mean this is tough for me, but I don't even remember back to the 1996 finals season. I know if I did experience those great seasons this move would be even tougher for me but I still wish I did because those are the kind of amazing moments that happen to a whole community that only sports can deliver.
Kevin: It's going to stink not having a pro team anymore. Even though the Sonics weren't the best, as a basketball fan it was awesome seeing players like Ray Allen and others on the team that I could learn and model my own basketball game after. Along with that the Sonics played host to some of the greatest athletes on the earth; Kobe Bryant, Tracy McGrady, LeBron James, Dwight Howard, etc..Seattle basketball fans don't have an outlet to see the best ballers on earth anymore.
Jeff: What I think is one of the best benefits of having your own team is not the superstars, but the supporting players that you get to know over the years and appreciate their own style of play. Unfortunately there haven't been very many over the past decade.
Kevin: Reggie Evans and Brent Barry are the first two players that fit that mold to pop up in my mind.
Jeff: Calvin Booth didn't make the cut?
Kevin: Haha. So..what are you going to do now? As a fan at least?
Jeff: The Trial Blazers look attractive right now and I will try to at least become a fan but I feel that I'll never have the emotional attachment to that team to call them my own. I don't think I'll pay to much attention to the NBA, but chances are I will be rooting for the Nuggets if anyone since I have technically been pulling for them every since Carmelo joined them (not against the Sonics of course).
Kevin: The thing that hasn't hit me yet is the fact that I'll never get to go to an NBA game again. It sucks. The people in Oklahoma better cherish it.
Jeff: They will, until its 5 years down the line and the team is losing 50 games a year. Plus, if the Key Arena and its hundreds of millions of dollars of construction can't last 10 years without not being good enough of an arena for the NBA, I'm not sure how the $90 million Ford Center will turn out with mediocre crowds.
Kevin: For now, I think I'm slowly getting over them leaving, I like the Trailblazers, and I think I'll just become a way huger UW basketball fan. Nothing can replace the Supes.
Jeff: Adjusting will probably be alot more difficult for me, I just don't think I can whore myself out like you (sorry for calling you a whore, it had to be done). Thank God for Gonzaga basketball because without them this would be the longest winter of my life.
