EliteXC’s relentless marketing machine fueled by Kimbo Slice has done of great job of distorting the truth to fair-weathered MMA fans across the United States.
On the surface, their marketing strategy would lead you to believe that Slice is one of the top MMA fighters in the world and clearly the best EliteXC fighter on their roster.
In reality, Slice wouldn’t even crack the top 30 in the world at heavyweight. He’s not even the best fighter under contract with EliteXC. Peel back the marketing facade and you’ll quickly find out that this distinction belongs to welterweight Jake Shields.

Hmm. I kind of disagree here.
EXC doesn't say that he's the best, nor do they hide the fact that he's new and inexperienced. They actually call him what he is and that's an attraction. I've never seen EXC claim that he was anything more than a great attraction.
They can't oversell him because if they do, and he loses, they'll be looked at as frauds. I think Frank Shamrock even went out of his way to be very unbiased towards Kimbo, even though that a Kimbo loss would've killed them.
Oh well, I think it was well written, but I disagree. Good job though.

I agree with you that they don't think he's one of the best. They just choose to market him that way. The whole "baddest man on the planet" thing.

But there's a difference. If you call someone the "baddest man on the planet", you're calling him scary, mean, and an attraction. If you call someone the "best", that's entirely different. I don't see EXC promoting him as the best. They promote him as an attraction.

I think we're spliting hairs here. Either way the fair weathered MMA fan or someone seeing it for the first time equates baddest man on the plant to the best fighter on the planet out of ignorance.
