Randy Orton- Will The WWE Ever Appreciate Him Enough?

Judy JaplinApr 3, 2010

It seems as though the WWE goes through some Bipolar disorder when it comes to Randy Orton. Granted, this happens with many superstars but I haven't seen it as often as when it concerns "The Viper". WWE creative loves to build him up with months of amazing storyline progression and matches and then they go back and ruin it seemingly within a short amount of time. One shining example is from the moment Randy Orton won the 2009 Royal Rumble. From the end of January through WrestleMania 25, Orton was the hottest heel going and made for some of WWE's best television. And then he goes on to lose at the biggest PPV of the year and things begin a downward spiral. I don't quite know why the creative team has such a difficult time sustaining a storyline for him. But it does beg the question...will they ever appreciate him enough?

Currently, they have him playing a very anti-hero role. He isn't quite a face like John Cena but his days of being a total heel are over. The audience, this time, as opposed to his first face run, turned him. In that respect, WWE had no choice but to go with the flow. You don't mess with what is working. The pops from the audience and continued chants of the RKO proved too much to deny. It even forced WWE to change their initial plans, which were to make Ted DiBiase face and leave Orton as a heel. So, now that we have a new "Age of Orton" if you will within the WWE, it once again begs that tired question. Will the WWE appreciate Randy enough this time around to really let him be the superstar he is. Will he win matches on a regular basis? Will he move back into the main event scene where he deserves to be? Will he be treated as though he is the gifted superstar that we all know he is? Or, will the WWE drop the ball and have him "elevate" young talent even though he is quite young himself? Will the WWE drop the ball and trade him from the biggest show (RAW) to the secondary show (Smackdown)? Will the WWE drop the ball and have him run around in a seemingly boring storyline that doesn't benefit anyone long-term? All good questions. But it all comes down to how much the company appreciates Randy. I for one hope they realize the talent they have with him and allow that to prosper for a good portion of 2010. I am not asking for Cena-like superman status here. Just something that shows that the company knows they have a solid worker who is beyond over with the "WWE Universe" and they appreciate him enough to do the right thing.
