Alabama JC Signee Dequan Menzie Tears Achilles Tendon

Parker ShieldsCorrespondent IApril 3, 2010

The Alabama football team took a huge blow on Friday, with the unfortunate news that highly recruited JC Defensive Back Dequan Menzie tore his Achilles Tendon and could be out for up to 6 months.

Menzie was expected to come to Tuscaloosa and immediately contend for playing time with fellow highly-touted freshman John Fulton, and Demarcus Milliner, in an inexperienced Tide secondary.

Rumors have been thrown around that Menzie obtained this injury in a pickup basketball game, but Menzie's high school coach has come to his player's defense.

Glen Davis, high school coach, claims that Menzie's injury actually took place in the football weight room, but worsened during the basketball game.

If Menzie's injury does keep him off the field for the six months that is expected, he wont be back until early October, setting him up for a probable redshirt.

Either way you look at it, this could end us being a very big blow to the Tide's 2010 Title hopes.
