No agreement will ever be reached on which one will be better for Liverpool FC, but luckily it's Rafa's choice, and as Liverpool fans say, "In Rafa we trust".
What about both?
Sadly with Gillet and Hicks in charge, funds are limited and this is obvious with the sales of Crouch, Kewell being released, Riise and soon to be Guthrie.
With Carson looking soon to follow, and possibly Pennant and Benayoun, too, it’s obvious not only they’re short of money, but also Rafa is looking to strengthen.
Rafa has clearly expressed an interest in Aston Villa's Gareth Barry, as he is keen to partner him with England's Steven Gerrard. Yet Liverpool will only be able to afford him, as we need a good winger, by selling Xabi Alonso, who has a proposed move to Juventus for approximately $14 million.
That move is not certain to take place.
Alonso, often referred to as Pass master Alonso, was a firm favorite with the die-hard Liverpool fans upon his arrival and absolutely stunning first season.
With injury and not playing, he lost some form.
Liverpool fans have stuck by him but have to admit his form has dipped.
So, should we cash in on him and replace him with 27-year-old Barry?
He is keen to move to Liverpool, yet has no champions league experience and would appear to not be as good as Alonso when they are both on top of their game.
With Alonso struggling to totally impress, is it time for a new face to lead us to the desperately desired premier league, to prevent Manchester United equalling Liverpool fantastic record of 18 league titles?
England duo together or Pass master Alonso?
You Decide!
My prediction: Alonso to Juve for $15 million and Bary to Liverpool for $17 million, plus Steve Finnan.
Barry to be a flop!

It seems Juventus has gotten cold feet lately though. But I reckon (hope) he will go eventually as well. I doubt Benayoun is leaving though -->

I don't understand the reasoning behind the valuations of these two players. The argument goes that because England internationals Michael Carrick and Owen Hargreaves cost United around 18M, then that's a fair price for Barry. So how come Alonso, who is 9 months younger than Barry, has 47 caps to Barry's 20, has oodles of CL experience and has just been part of a Euro winning squad is worth 22% less than Barry at around 14M??
Alonso may have had a dip in form after coming back from injury, but these valuations seem completely out of whack to me. Barry is reletively untested at the highest levels.
