In the last year we've seen Twitter explode into a phenomenon where athletes have expressed their big news or even their nonsensical brain farts in 140 characters or less. Regardless of the type of comment, one cannot deny just how big Twitter has become and its relevance in the sports world today.

The big, famous athletes receive a great amount of attention for their tweets, but really it's the hot female athletes who can keep people coming back to their pages. That got us thinking about 20 of the hottest female athletes who run their own Twitter page.

Misty May-Treanor: Beach Volleyball

Misty May-Treanor became the minx of the 2008 Summer Olympics when she and partner Kerri Walsh took home the gold in women's beach volleyball. Between her profession on the beach and hot magazine spreads, Misty must find it hard to put on a regular outfit, and that's okay by me.

Candace Parker: Basketball

Candace Parker has become the belle of the WNBA. Her combination of looks and moves on the hardwood are a winning duo.

Anna Rawson: Golf

Not only can Anna Rawson kill you with her looks, but she'll make you feel bad about your distance off the tee as well.

Ana Ivanovic: Tennis

They say tennis does great things for a woman's body. Well, I guess that's why Ana Ivanovic is one of the many hot tennis players out there.

Amanda Beard: Swimming

Amanda Beard is the veteran athlete on this list, but the Olympic swimmer has taken the Internet by storm in recent months with her Maxim spreads and Playboy appearance. Here's to more skin from the gold medal winner.

Gretchen Bleiler: Snowboarding

Gretchenbleiler_display_image

She didn't finish in the medals at the recent Winter Olympics, but Gretchen Bleiler can certainly melt snow with her looks. Hopefully she doesn't disappear for the next four years.

Biba Golic: Table Tennis

Her sport barely gets any television time as it is, which is a shame because Golic could become the most popular Golic at the Worldwide Leader with a little more air time.

Natalie Coughlin: Swimming

Nataliecoughlin_display_image

Coughlin is a force in the water (she became the first American woman to ever win six medals at one Olympics in Beijing) and a force in the centerfolds. Swimming clearly did her body good.

Tanith Belbin: Ice Dancing

She's got classic good looks and is a charmer with the media. Belbin's pretty much got it all.

Sasha Cohen: Figure Skating

Sasha Cohen's a stunner on the ice and off. Classic good looks and a committed tweeter.

Natalie Gulbis: Golf

Nataliegulbis_display_image

Gulbis arguably reigns as the hottest professional golfer, though Anna Rawson may say otherwise. Sorry to say the LPGA needs more women like Gulbis.

Maria Sharapova: Tennis

Mariasharapova01_display_image

Sharapova not only wins on the court, but with her looks as well. She has shown she isn't just a model with a racket in her hand, and that makes her even hotter.

http://twitter.com/mariasharapova

Julia Mancuso: Skiing

Juliemancusolangegirl_display_image

Mancuso is a hot skier (always a great combo) who has become very proficient in self-promotion from her video blogs to her Twitter page.

http://twitter.com/juliamancuso

Lindsey Vonn: Skiing

Vonn_display_image

Vonn, like her partner in crime Mancuso, burns up the slopes both with her skies and her looks. She is the other half of one of man's biggest questions, "Vonn or Mancuso?"

http://twitter.com/Lindseyvonn

Gina Carano: MMA

Ginacaranomaxim33_display_image

Carano can cause damage in two ways, both with her looks and her fists. She is one sexy combination of intimidation.

Anna Kournikova: Tennis

Annakournikova26_display_image

Yes, she retired from tennis and yes she never won squat while on the WTA. Nonetheless, as long as Anna remains hot she will stay on the list.

Danica Patrick: Driver

Danica has one victory under her belt, so she's not quite the Anna Kournikova over her sport, but it's close. Yet, who cares. She's hot and that's enough for our purposes.

Jennie Finch: Softball

Chicks dig the long ball, but guys dig Finch's fastball and blond bombshell look on the softball diamond.

Tara Dakides

Dakides can shred on the slopes and brings a different kind of attitude among the ladies on this list.

Kristi Leskinen: Skiing

Another blond, gorgeous skier who looks even better in a bikini.
