The Star-Ledger's Brian Costa reported Wednesday that Jerry Manual gives Jon Niese the "inside track" (quoting Manual) on the No. 5 pitching job. Young Niese is the sleeper on the staff. He could move up to three or two starter. We still waiting for Perez, Pelfrey, and Maine to blossom. He throws good stuff. Question is he mature enough to pitch in the majors right now. Last year he was up and down. Niese was just getting his feet wet. I love to see him pitch more than Perez, Pelfrey, and Maine sometimes. Neise could be a big time pitcher given the opportunity.
