NFL, NFC North, Green Bay Packers, Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers, Breaking News

Oh the Brett Favre saga continues and today it takes its most serious turn. ESPN's Chris Mortensen is reporting Favre and his agent Bus Cook have sent a letter to the Packers asking for his unconditional release.

We have known for about a month now that the recently retired Favre would like to renounce that title and continue playing if not for the Packers, some team in the NFL.

We have also known that the Packers organization has not been as open to the idea of Favre returning as the team has grown tired of having to deal with the drama that is Brett Favre every off season. This became clear after Packers GM Ted Thompson did not respond to a Brett Favre text message citing that he would deal with it after he returned from vacation.

But now Favre serves his beloved franchise an ultimatum. The man wants to play, the team wants to move on with unproven QB Aaron Rodgers, he wants his release.

So, the question now is will they do it? It remains to be seen why the Packers wouldn't as Favre serves them no good on the IR or retired-reserved list. Also now that Favre has asked for his release the fans can hardly blame the franchise for releasing the most beloved players in the storied franchise.

It will be interesting to say the least to see how the Favre saga plays out. Will they or wont they? And if they do, which team(s) will try to sign the gunslinger quarterback? Imagine Favre in a Dolphins, Vikings, Buccaneers, or (shudder) Bears jersey? Once an impossibility, soon an all to real reality.
