Omar Minaya has made a name for himself with New York sports fans, especially after acquiring Johan Santana from the Twins.

But recently he has been praised for his work with the coaching staff of the Mets. He's turned them from a .500 team into  a team with a newly acquired swagger that can take them far.

Since last week they've come from seven games behind the Phillies into a tie with Florida for second place in the division, 1.5 games behind Philly.

That's the reason  the Mets should acquire some role players during the trade deadline. Because with the current team featuring oft-injured starters and a six game win streak, they can only stay behind Philly.

Now I think some players that should be available at the trade deadline include Rockies outfielder Matt Holliday, Mariners pitcher Erik Bedard, recently released Richie Sexson, Rays outfielder Cliff Floyd, and finally, the much hated Barry Bonds.

Though the Mets need some more "umph" in their lineup. I think that these players should provide that in the long haul.

  1. I'm curious who you would suggest the Mets trade for any of these guys?

The Rockies have made their request public in what they want for Holliday. Let me know who you would trade for who next time you write an article like this.

    1. I agree completely Harris. The mets would destroy the next 5 years if they make a big deal for a guy like Holliday. I dont see how the Rockies would agree to any trade the Mets would propose. No big deals please.

  2. Any more need in the outfield now that Moises Alou is done for the year (and possibly career)?

  3. I liek your enthusiasm, truly, but lets not jump the gun. The Mets are on a nice little winning streak and are playing great ball, but lets not talk as though they have completely turned their season around. The Mets remained at .500 for at least 2 weeks or so after Willie got fired so Im not sure that Manuel is completely responsible for their turnaround. We all know what terrible ball they are capable of playing.

I wouldnt mind a harmless pick up like Richie Sexson though. Throw him a minor league deal and see if he bites. It cant hurt. But Bedard and Holliday are impossible to get. The Rays would not trade Floyd for prospects right now. They are looking for players to help their team this year. The Mets wouldnt give them that. Any other pick ups should be minor. I could even see a Kenny Lofton type player happening as well.

  4. Sexson is old on on the downside. I would go for Teixeira. Delgado needs to be replaced. Pagan is on his was back. Nixon and Church are not far behind. The outfield will be fine.

  5. who to trade for Teixeira?
