Baseball season is in the air. With Arizona and Florida stocked to the brim with baseball's finest pre-season, we can already taste the hot dogs, popcorn and beer, or in the case of this celebrity baseball tournament... taste the blood.
It's well know that baseball is as American as apple pie, and in anticipation for the season ahead, the celebrity world has already getting into the ballpark spirit.
A fascinating concept for a baseball tournament took place last weekend in New Orleans. The theme: Celebrity Vampire Baseball, the cause it supports: The Red Cross Blood Supply. What a brilliant concept! America has already proven it's crazy fascination with all things vampire and combining those forces with all things baseball, we can't help but commend the marketing coordinator from The Red Cross for coming up with such an amazing concept. The players in the golf tournament... America's favorite Vampires, of course!
Nelsan Ellis, "Lafayette" from HBO's True Blood lent his support to the cause. Joining Nelsan in the dugout, Twilight stars Chaske Spencer, Alex Meraz, and Daniel Cudmore. Even Superbowl Champion New Orleans Saints Players Garrett Hartley, and Kyle Eckel came out in support.
The Batter Up Campaign raised money for The Red Cross to benefit those affected by major natural disasters including Katrina victims, and Haiti relief. A portion of the net proceeds goes toward Haitian Relief Organizations to support ongoing efforts to rebuild lives after disaster. A significant portion supports New Orleans non-profit organizations like The Blood Center and 9th Ward Field of Dreams. Hence the name, Vampire Baseball. True Blood fans will know that the show takes place in Cajun Country, and we know Bill Compton would approve of these Louisiana festivities.
Weekend activities included an exhibition game, autograph session, photos and meet and greets with the stars, and even a concert.
Fabulous cause, fabulous line up, fabulous theme. For more information on how you can join the Vampire Celebrities by helping The Red Cross please visit http://www.redcross.com/, Sookie and Bella would agree that blood is the oxygen of life. No garlic required.
