Former Manchester United and Real Madrid star David Beckham has revealed that he was on the brink of joining AC Milan last summer.
After leaving Real Madrid this time last year, Beckham was looking for a fresh challenge and he was strongly linked with a San Siro switch.
In the end, ex-Manchester United midfielder was lured to the MLS by a vastly lucrative offer from LA Galaxy, but he has recalled how much thought he gave to joining the Rossoneri.
“I was very close to signing for Milan,” Beckham told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“I thought very hard about the opportunity, but in the end I decided to come to the USA.
“Milan are a top-level club, which is what I was looking for after Real Madrid and Manchester United.
“The Diavolo are the side that I like best in Serie A and they have played excellent football for years. Furthermore, I like the country and I often go there on holiday.”
Beckham also gave his view on England manager Fabio Capello, who he feels is the right man to set the Three Lions roaring.
“He’s a coach with the ability to bring us success and he has such passion,” he said.
“You have to play for the team, otherwise you will end up in the stands. Capello is a wise man and he knows what is needed to win.”

It would have been good to still see him play in Europe but Milan probably wouldn’t have been the best fit for him personally – in my opinion they have far too old a squad anyway so signing another 30+ year old player probably wouldn’t have been the best idea.
Still his technique would have seen him be a success there in my opinion, although obviously relative to his peak achievements which are behind him now.

Glad he never went L.A although not great in terms of playing ability etc etc is a fit for him and his family - as long as he still plays for England nothing much else matters to him he has done it all and won it all bar something with England...
Thanks Matt
