Just what is the true value of Manchester United?

So many price tags are being quoted, so what is the club really worth now? Because of the debt we know the price starts at around about £700 million, but where does it stop?

The truth is probably whatever price at which the seller sells and the buyer buys.

I really think though that with Manchester United there is no ceiling. It's a premium club with a unique history and a fanbase second to none, and if asked to make a guess, I would probably say that all records will be broken if and when this club is sold next time.

I do think Micheal Knighton's article in the Telegraph a few weeks ago may be right.

Manchester United are like the IBM and Microsoft of the footballing world, so how do you put a price on something so big?

Knighton said: "Even when you are talking in terms of £1 billion or £2 billion, Manchester United is massively under-valued, and the Glazers are no fools. They know that you do not sell an asset like Manchester United unless needs must."

Certainly makes you think what value is it really.
