Coming into tonight's game, Carmelo Anthony has the upper hand on LeBron James.
The Nuggets are 6-2 against the Cavs since the two superstars made it to the league.
Melo, of course, has been blessed with the company of another All-Star in Allen Iverson, while LeBron is stuck with the oft-injured Larry Hughes, the aging Zydrunas Ilgauskas, the sporadic Drew Gooden, and second-year guard Boobie Gibson.
One thing LeBron does has over Melo is postseason success. I understand that Melo plays in the more competitive Western Conference, but LeBron DID single-handedly carry his team to the 2007 NBA Finals.
Melo, meanwhile, has been forced to accept consecutive first-round exits at the hands of the San Antonio Spurs.
That said, I believe this is the year Melo progresses in the playoffs. The Nuggets are putting up Boston-Celtics-type stats thus far, and seem to have finally gelled after failing to do so last season.
The Cavs, on the other hand, will need LeBron to be even better than he was a year ago, as the East has only gotten stronger. The Knicks are actually trying to put a real team on the court, and the Magic are looking like a scary squad.
In any event, both superstars will be the faces of their respective franchises, and of the league as a whole, for years to come. If AI can keep taking hits for a few more years, and if LeBron gets a core unit of quality players around him, Melo-LeBron may prove to be a Finals matchup to rival Magic and Larry's.
