Arizona Hires New Athletic Director Greg Byrne

The University of Arizona is set to hire Mississippi State athletic director Greg Byrne to fill the same position.

The 38-year-old Byrne had held the Mississippi State job for two years after being their assistant AD for the previous two years.

"There is little question that this decision is a good one for my family,'' Byrne said in a press release from Mississippi State. "But this decision was more than just family. My new position offers many of the same challenges we faced here at Mississippi State. We will attack those challenges in the same way we did here.''

He comes from a lineage of athletic directors; his father, Bill, is the AD at Texas A&M.

Byrne will replace Jim Livengood who left in December to take the athletic director position at UNLV. Livengood had to deal with some controversy at Arizona but it seems that he left the program in good shape for the future.

Arizona will hold a press conference on Wednesday to announce the hiring.
