When you think about the Orioles, you think of Brian Roberts, Miguel Tejada or Erik Bedard, two of which don't play for the Orioles anymore. Nick Markakis, however is one of the brightest young players in baseball.
Markakis is 3rd in the AL in outfield assists (eight), and is hitting .304 with 14 homers and 50 RBI.
I'm not sure why he didn't make the All Star Game as a reserve. He is hitting .300 with runners in scoring position, is second on the team in homers and RBI, and leads in average.
He's hitting .457 in July with two homers and 10 RBI.
Since June 1, his average has shot up from .262 to .304. Markakis now has a reputation as the best arm in the AL East and possibly the AL besides Vladimir Guerrero.
Right now, Markakis has a 16 game hit streak going and during that streak is hitting .406. If you've seen Markakis play, you'd know he is one of the best right fielders in baseball.
Many around baseball don't know of Markakis and would be shocked knowing his current numbers.
If you're an O's fan, you're shocked he doesn't have better numbers than he does. Last year, Markakis had 112 RBI, 23 homers and a .300 batting average.
He normally hits second in the Oriole lineup, where he has been progressing. As a rookie, he hit .291 with 16 homers and 62 RBI.
Every year this guy has had has been solid.
